Doctors warn about the dangers of hardware manicure

Manicure performs an exclusively “decorative” function. That is, after such a procedure, we do not receive any useful properties, except for direct visual pleasure. However, girls (and sometimes boys) regularly come to the salon for this aesthetic service. However, doctors warn: the habit of applying gel polish to nails can cause significant harm to the entire body.

So, Elena Malysheva raised the question of the wisdom of doing hardware manicure in salons. She warned of the risk of developing cancer from gel polish nail polish. In particular, the doctor and TV presenter explained that melanoma can occur due to special lamps.

Malysheva and her co-hosts, pediatrician Andrei Prodeus and neurologist Dmitry Shubin, confirmed and added that the risk of oncology is increased specifically due to the ultraviolet radiation of manicure lamps. According to doctors, ultraviolet light provokes the development of cancer cells.

The fact is that the lamps that are used for the popular method of manicure can have different strengths of ultraviolet radiation, so the likelihood of the disease varies. The risk of developing melanoma is entirely related to the time and severity of the radiation.

Also, experts have demonstrated a way to protect against exposure to ultraviolet radiation – you can use disposable gloves. To do this, you will have to cut them in such a way that the light of the lamp can only fall on the nail plates themselves, without affecting the skin. Since most of the skin will be covered from hazardous radiation, the risk of illness can be significantly reduced.

Also in the media there were published materials of research by American dermatologists. According to doctors, the lamp used to polymerize the coating can indeed be extremely dangerous for people who are sensitive to ultraviolet light. They note: in such devices only UVA rays act, which do not allow getting burned. However, radiation penetrates deep into the skin and damages collagen. This leads to premature aging and melanoma formation.

Dermatologist Chris Adigun warns that it is very important to follow all the necessary lamp manufacturers’ instructions and keep your hands in them for as long as necessary. She also insists on wearing gloves, which Malysheva advises.

“In an ideal salon world, you should wear UV protection or fingerless gloves to reduce the risk of skin damage. It is better to consult your doctor about how UVA rays affect the body, and always apply SPF cream before a manicure, ”the expert says.
