MEPs who have backed anti-vaccine demands may face serious problems because of this. The Medical Chamber believes that they have violated the ban on promoting anti-health attitudes and wants to punish them. They may even lose their right to practice.
Five PiS MPs who are also doctors voted in favor of sending the draft abolishing compulsory vaccinations for further work. The medical community is clearly in favor of the need for vaccination. The anti-vaccine movement has been criticized and their attitudes considered to be a threat to the public good. The Medical Chamber decided that by supporting the project on voluntary vaccination, doctors broke the ban on promoting anti-health attitudes. Now they face serious consequences, including a ban on practicing their profession.
The act on lifting the vaccination obligation was opposed by the medical community, the minister of health and the head of the GiS. On the other hand, the majority of PiS deputies supported further work on the bill. Among them were five doctors: Alicja Kaczorowska, Grzegorz Raczek, Tomasz Latos, Krzysztof Ostrowski and Andrzej Sośnierz. The Regional Medical Chamber in Warsaw asked the professional liability ombudsman of the Supreme Medical Chamber to initiate proceedings against them.
Physicians may be reprimanded, suspended or even dismissed from the profession for acting contrary to the principles of ethics and violating the provisions on practicing the profession.
