There is new official information on the use of the Sputnik V vaccine for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
According to new data, women in a position should be vaccinated with “Sputnik V” only in cases where the intended benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the unborn child.
This is indicated in the updated instructions for the coronavirus vaccine.
It also emphasizes the fact that to date there are no results of a study of the drug on pregnant women.
“There are no clinical data on the use of Gam-COVID-Vac in women who are breastfeeding. The risk to newborn / breastfed babies cannot be ruled out. In this regard, the use of the drug “Gam-COVID-Vak” during breastfeeding is contraindicated, “the official statement says.
We will remind that earlier the Minister of Health of Russia Mikhail Murashko spoke about the abolition of restrictions on the use of the Sputnik V vaccine for women carrying children. Contraindications were withdrawn on the basis of positive results of vaccine tests and data obtained in the post-registration period, indicating the safety of the drug.
“Today, taking into account the positive results of preclinical studies of the safety of the vaccine, as well as the accumulated data on the efficacy and safety in clinical trials and the post-registration period, experts have decided to remove contraindications for the use of the Gam-Covid-Vak vaccine in pregnant women. Thus, the possibility of vaccination of pregnant women with a high risk of a severe course of coronavirus infection is open, ”the head of the Ministry of Health emphasized at the presidium of the Coordination Council under the Government of the Russian Federation to combat COVID-19.
The question of considering the possibility of vaccination of pregnant women with the aim of preventing COVID-19 was voiced by Mikhail Murashko on June 17. The item arose on the agenda due to the high risk of infection for this category of citizens. Then the minister said that the final decision on the issue would be made within the next one to one and a half weeks.
