Coronavirus in Poland. Declines in infections

The Ministry of Health informed about 6 796 new coronavirus infections and 429 deaths. There are less than 4 infected. than last Friday. There are 23 in hospitals. 469 patients with COVID-19, and 2 thousand. 831 of them are connected to respirators. That’s about 5 525 hospitalized patients less than a week ago.

– The continuing downward trends in the number of infected, hospitalized people and the number of deaths prove that applying restrictions and accelerating the vaccination rate are effective – said Prof. Zajkowska. She pointed out that the tendency may slow down, because we are entering a period of gradual easing of the restrictions.

Coronavirus: relaxation of restrictions

From May 4, shopping malls, DIY and furniture stores will return to the sanitary regime, from May 8, hotels will be able to resume operations, and on May 15 – restaurants and cafes, so far only in open-air gardens. From May 15, the order to wear masks in the open air while maintaining a distance of 1,5 meters no longer applies.

– We are all waiting for the lifting of restrictions and a return to normalcy. The fact that we take off our masks in the air should not increase the number of infections – said prof. Zajkowska. She also reminded about the necessity to wear masks indoors and outdoors, “when we are in a large group of people and the distance is not kept, for example, at bus stops, in queues”.

She pointed out that at present “the greatest source of disease is family infections, where keeping distance is impossible and large urban agglomerations where people move and come into contact with each other”.

  1. The editorial office recommends: on May 15, the end of the mask on one condition. How to fulfill it?

Coronavirus in Poland. Vaccinations as a chance to return to normal

A radical measure to slow down the epidemic, according to prof. Zajkowska are vaccinations. – I am glad that vaccinations are accelerating. Before we talked about the May Day vaccination campaign, with a single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, after which immunity was obtained after four weeks. We hope that there will be a big response and we will be able to accelerate the vaccination campaign even more – she said. She indicated that the vaccination points will be mobile. People registered for vaccinations will be able to vaccinate, and who want to advance their date, as well as their willingness to vaccinate can declare workplaces for their employees.

If vaccinations are carried out as planned, in July we have a chance of reaching the level of 70 percent. vaccinatedwhich already gives population immunity. So before the holiday season, we should have the end of the third wave of the epidemic, said an infectious disease expert.
