The psychologist explained how to raise an emotionally stable child in an era of continuous information consumption.
Famous Russian psychotherapist and methodologist Andrei Kurpatov in the program “Beware, Sobchak!” touched upon the topic of “digital dementia” – brain disorders due to the frequent use of electronic devices.
The modern digital age is a time when there is content for absolutely all ages. How to protect a child from untimely and even painful consumption of information? Dr. Kurpatov told Ksenia Sobchak about this.
“Endless consumption of information, scrolling of feeds cause cheap dopamine. Addiction is quickly formed, subsequently people cannot spend a second without it. When they are alone with themselves, they immediately grab the phone. The healthcare organization is already in a fit, ”says Dr. Kurpatov.
The psychotherapist believes that under 3 years old a child should not use gadgets and contact any screens:
“At this age, the brain forms modes of work. On-screen consumption prevents him from forming modes of focusing, imagining, and projecting the future. From 3 years old it is permissible to look at the screen for 15 minutes. “
Andrei Kurpatov claims that the number of children with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is growing: if earlier one or two people had it per school, now almost everyone has it. It is ADHD that foreign scientists call digital dementia.
Confirmation of the words of the psychotherapist is that people who have made a huge contribution to the development of digital technologies limit their own children in communicating with smartphones and tablets. Apple founder Steve Jobs did not allow his children to use gadgets at night and on weekends. Twitter creator Evan Williams gives his sons tablets and phones for an hour a day.
Well, Andrei Kurpatov himself added that his child did not have a mobile phone until he was 10 years old.
