– From the perspective of hospitals, there is no improvement in the situation in connection with COVID-19 cases – infectious diseases expert Prof. Joanna Zajkowska from the University Teaching Hospital in Białystok. Her observations show that now whole families are ill.
Coronavirus in Poland: the third wave of the epidemic
On Sunday, the health ministry informed about 21 thousand. 703 new cases of infection; 245 people died. A week ago, on Sunday, it was reported that 22 thousand jobs were recorded in Poland. 947 new cases of coronavirus infection, 204 people died then. In turn, two weeks ago, laboratory tests confirmed 29 thousand. 253 cases of coronavirus infection and 131 patients died.
– We all expect the number of cases to decline. I am out of hospital duty and I must say that there are many cases of these diseases and from the perspective of the hospital, this decrease is not visible – told PAP prof. Joanna Zajkowska from the University Teaching Hospital in Białystok.
The professor said that yesterday, the hospital where she works at 15.00 p.m. ran out of places for COVID-19 patients. Therefore, they were redirected to temporary hospitals.
She added that perhaps the statistics on the national scale suggest a decline and a reduction in the incidence, but in her opinion, it is necessary to wait for drawing positive conclusions. Lower numbers are also given over the weekend when fewer people are tested.
Referring to the number of deaths reported on Sunday, which amounted to 245, she noted that it was lower than in the previous days, but – she stressed – that this was also probably related to the manner of reporting during the weekend, hence these data do not fully reflect the actual situation.
– However, I think that the effect of the holidays (Easter – PAP) will be visible in cases of illness. The experience from today’s on-call duty is that there are many family diseases. Not everyone examines themselves, the whole family becomes ill, does not protect those exposed, and only one person is tested, which is why these indicators are underestimated – she pointed. Her observations show that many elderly people still suffer from illness and some of them have poor prognosis.
There are currently 33 in hospitals. 460 COVID-19 patients, 707 less than on Saturday. Respirator support requires 3. 459 sick. This is 86 more patients than the day before – informed the Ministry of Health on Sunday.
– There are people under respirators who started getting sick last week or two weeks ago and are now entering a worse phase of the disease – commented the expert.
