Dr. Izabela Pałgan, who works at the County Hospital in Golub-Dobrzyń, performed on Saturday at the founding party of the Polska Jest One movement in Siemianowice Śląskie. There, she made controversial theses, contrary to the findings of scientists, as well as the position of the Ministry of Health.
“The risk is greater than the benefit”
– As a pediatrician I have been working with children for 20 or several years. I am devastated by what is currently happening in our country. For one and a half years of the pandemic, there was one child in my pediatric ward with COVID-19 – said the head of the children’s ward of the County Hospital in Golub-Dobrzyń. She noted that in larger hospitals, children get sick “but very mildly and very rarely”.

She also talked about vaccinations. – I am against giving this preparation to children as there is insufficient research to do so. There is no proven effectiveness. The risk is greater than the benefit. (…) We have the right to the truth, and this truth does not exist, because the distant effects in the aspect of, for example, fertility in children, are unexplained. We do not know what it will be like in the future, how this preparation may affect fertility. There are reports in research studies that may also have an impact on impaired fertility. (…) Parents should have the right to reliable information in order to make a conscious decision, she argued.

She noted, however, that she is not an anti-vaccine agent and, as a pediatrician, she urged newborns to be vaccinated against meningococcus.
Private opinion?
Journalists of Gazeta Pomorska asked Danuta Malecka, the vice-star of Golub-Dobrzyn, about the controversial statement. – Perhaps it is only a fragment of the statement taken out of a wider context. I want to emphasize that at the founding party of the social movement, the doctor was not delegated or represented the County Hospital in Golub-Dobrzyńand any possible statements accounted for her private views – said Malecka.

«Gazeta Pomorska» refers to the announcement of the Supreme Medical Council and the Medical Ethics Committee, which clearly stated that: «It is the task of doctors to provide patients and the public with reliable scientific knowledge about vaccines and vaccinations, while the provision of information on vaccinations that is not based on current medical knowledge is inconsistent with the principles of practicing the medical profession. (…) If there could be a violation of the rules of practicing the profession by a doctor, requests will be sent to the professional liability authorities to initiate professional liability proceedings ».
