In more than a year of the COVID-19 epidemic, we got used to the daily statistics on infections and deaths. With each successive month of a prolonged pandemic, new data makes less and less impression. However, it is difficult to say after such a time that the epidemic does not concern us. A new poll shows that every fourth Pole knew people who died of COVID-19.
Worldwide, the coronavirus epidemic has already claimed almost 3 million deaths. In Poland, more than 58 have already died as a result of the infection. patients. While the dramatic statistics do not affect the imagination as much as they did at the start of the pandemic, the scale is enormous.
58 thousand people are only slightly less than the inhabitants of Tczew (59). Over 951 thousand people live, for example, in Biała Podlaska.
A survey conducted by Kliniki.pl from SW Research shows that every fourth Pole knows someone who died as a result of COVID-19. 25,4 percent of the respondents gave such an answer.
Recent weeks have brought records when it comes to the number of occupied covid beds. According to doctors, the increase in hospitalization is caused by, inter alia, a British variant of the coronavirus that is not only more infectious but also causes a more severe course of the disease. Worryingly, far more people in their 40s and 50s are in need of hospital care now than in previous epidemic waves.

43 percent people participating in the Kliniki.pl study said that they knew people who had to be hospitalized as a result of COVID-19.
The survey data shows that the COVID-19 epidemic has affected many Poles not only indirectly, but also personally. Since March 2020, the infection has been confirmed in over 2,5 million people. According to doctors and experts, these figures are understated and many more have been through COVID-19. Many patients developed the infection at home without reporting for the test. It is not known how many Poles could have had an asymptomatic course of COVID-19.
After more than a year of the pandemic, the statistics of sickness, hospitalization and deaths have become abstract, so we decided to show the scale of the social trauma behind them – says Marcin Fiedziukiewicz, president of Kliniki.pl. – Tens of thousands of people who died from COVID-19 are several million Poles who have been affected by the departure of these people. In this context, it is difficult to understand the still high percentage of people who declare that they will not be vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 – he adds.
