What is the coronavirus and what disease does it cause?

The coronavirus is an RNA virus that belongs to the Coronaveridae family. It has a lipid shell with characteristic crown-like structures on its surface.

The coronavirus causes a disease scientists have identified as COVID-19. It is a respiratory infection. Its main symptoms are cough, fever, shortness of breath, muscle aches and weakness. Some patients also complain of problems with the digestive system. The most common symptoms are vomiting, diarrhea and nausea.

The disease progresses with varying degrees of severity. In severe cases, sepsis, septic shock and acute multi-organ failure occur. The disease can even lead to the death of the sick person.

Who is most at risk from coronavirus infections?

The risk of coronavirus infection is high for all people, but some are particularly at risk of severe COVID-19. The risk of falling ill depends mainly on the general condition of our body, so it is worth taking care of our condition. This is especially true for the elderly, with low immunity and with various chronic diseases. It should be mentioned here, among others about diabetes, heart and lung diseases and neurological disorders.

Children with COVID-19 are not very common – they tend to be mildly ill or have an infection without symptoms.

How should you protect yourself from becoming infected with the coronavirus?

To avoid coronavirus infections, belongs:

  1. often wash your hands with soap and water or disinfect them with a special liquid;
  2. regularly clean and disinfect the various surfaces we touch every day;
  3. cover your mouth and nose when you leave the house;
  4. keep a distance from other people – about 2 meters;
  5. disinfect your cell phone and put it aside when eating;
  6. eat healthy and hydrate the body.

Is there an obligation to cover the nose and mouth in forests?

Although initially it was feared that the obligation to wear e.g. protective masks would also apply to forests, it was decided that both in forests and national parks there would be no obligation to wear protective masks.

However, it should be remembered that this does not exempt anyone from complying with the current rules. So let’s remember that you are still not allowed to meet in large groups and you should keep a safe distance from other people – at least 1,5 m.

In addition, wherever you meet other people, remember to cover your nose and mouth. So, when going to the forest by bus, we must wear a mask, but after entering the forest we can take it off.
