Regular meals, a balanced diet, exercise, and hydration are the basic recommendations to make get rid of fat. However, we know perfectly well that it is not possible to target a specific part of the body to lose weight. However, we can prevent its further accumulation, especially on the bane of many women – the stomach.

Research shows that meals contain fats Saturated fat produces more fat and less muscle than polyunsaturated fat. 39 young adult men and women with normal body weight participated in a study published at Upssala University. At the time of the study, they were told to consume an additional 750 calories a day for seven weeks. Increasing the energy of the diet was achieved by feeding muffins with a high fat content. One group of respondents received muffins with polyunsaturated fats (sunflower oil), and the other half with saturated fats (palm oil). Both diets contained the same amount of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The only difference was the type of fat used after baking the muffins.

The increase in adipose tissue and its distribution in the body was measured using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the activity of the abdominal visceral fat gene using a gene chip. The results of the study turned out to be very interesting. Despite similar the degree of weight gain The saturated fat cupcake group had:

  • greater growth of visceral fat
  • higher share of total body fat
  • three times less growth of muscle tissue

Scientists have also observed that excessive consumption of saturated fat can ‘turn on’ genes in adipose tissue that increase abdominal fat storage and, at the same time, make insulin regulation difficult.

Polyunsaturated fats, on the other hand, have the ability to ‘turn on’ visceral fat genes that reduce fat storage and improve glucose metabolism in the body.

It turns out that a diet rich in unsaturated fats not only helps to keep a flat stomach, but also protects against metabolic diseases. This is important as nowadays we are flooded with palm oil. It is cheap and easy to use, which is why it is used in many ready meals, cakes, cookies and snacks. So let’s prepare your own meals as much as possible, and if you have to eat something ready – read labels scrupulously.
