Do-it-yourself Vailant geyser repair

Water heaters “Wailant” gained popularity among users due to the German build quality. The equipment is easy to operate, equipped with a security system, but with all the reliability it is not immune from breakdowns. The duration of work is influenced by external and internal factors. We will tell you how to repair Vaillant geysers with your own hands.

Faults and solutions

Stability is affected by:

  1. Maintenance frequency.
  2. Location – in damp and dusty rooms, dust quickly settles on the parts.
  3. The quality of tap water.
  4. Heating temperature and compliance with the rules for using the device.

The column does not heat water well

The main problem is the poor pressure of hot water. Why is the device not working? Consider possible reasons.

water node. Its main part is a rubber membrane. When stretched, it pushes out the stem, which opens the gas valve. Then the burner is ignited. Why does the membrane fail?

  • Stretching, wear.
  • Deformation.
  • Damage: crack, tear.

To check a part, you need to get to it:

  • To remove the cover, remove the adjustment lever behind which is the screw.
  • Loosen the screw with a screwdriver.
  • Pull the cover towards you and remove.
  • The water block is connected to the gas block, you will see it right in the center.
  • Take the wrench and Phillips screwdriver.
  • Loosen the heat exchanger nut.
  • Unscrew the two bolts that secure the water unit to the gas unit.
  • Disconnect wiring.
  • After dismantling, it remains to disassemble the block.
  • Using a wrench, unscrew the six assembly cover bolts.
  • Pull out the fitting.
  • Now you can see the membrane.

Assess her condition. If it is in good condition, it is enough to rinse the part from contamination. Otherwise, replace the membrane with silicone, which is more resistant to permanent stretching.

Another reason why the column gives out low pressure is the strainer. It is located at the inlet of the water node. Take it out and rinse it under running water. If the part is very dirty, you can leave it to soak in a solution of citric acid.

Clogged heat exchanger. The radiator coil is a tube where water circulates and heats up. Why pipes get clogged:

  • The main reason is scale. The abundance of salts in the water require the installation of a purification filter for softening.
  • Dust and soot.
  • Elevated temperature. For the column “Vailant” the recommended temperature is 40-50 degrees. Heating more than 55 degrees contributes to the deposition of salts on the walls of the heat exchanger.

The thicker the scale layer, the lower the pressure force. Therefore, once a year it is necessary to clean the equipment. It is recommended to use a solution of citric acid 200 g per 800 ml of water. There are several ways to clean with a reagent:

  • The reagent is poured into a special pump or watering can. The heat exchanger is dismantled and installed above the bath or other container. The prepared liquid is poured or pumped into the coil. Runs several times. Then the structure is washed with clean water.
  • Place the radiator in a deep metal container filled with water. Pour the solution inside through the watering can. Place on the stove and heat for at least 30 minutes.

The boiler does not turn on and goes out

How to turn on the equipment if it does not light up? You need to find out the cause of the problem. If the burner cannot be ignited, the safety mechanisms are activated.

No draft in the chimney or ventilation duct. This happens when clogged with soot and soot, when foreign objects and debris get in. Checking traction is easy:

  • If there is a control window on the case, bring a lit match to it. If the flame deviates to the side, there is thrust.
  • To check the quality of the ventilation, bring a sheet of paper to the window. The sheet pressed against the window – there is a draft, fell – no.

You can not operate the column in the absence of traction. This is fraught with the ingress of carbon monoxide into the room.

You can clean the chimney from the side of the apartment yourself, in other cases it is better to contact the utilities.

Discharged battery. Some models have an electronic type of ignition – you can learn more about the device of the geyser from previous articles. When the mixer is opened, the batteries fire and send current to the module. The latter gives the command to ignite a spark for the burner. If the batteries fail, ignition will not occur. Batteries should be changed at least once every six months.

Small pressure of cold water. This happens when the streams are mixed. When you open the cold water faucet more, the hot water pressure drops – there is no hot water, the column goes out. It will be correct to set a comfortable temperature on the regulator so as not to mix the flows. Otherwise, scale builds up quickly.

Membrane stretch. Violation of its operation leads to the fact that the gas supply valve does not open or ignition occurs every other time. Replace membrane.

Clogged mixer mesh. For this reason, the flow force may be reduced. Disassemble the mixer, clean the mesh.

Gas valve closed. Before turning on the column, turn the valve until it stops.

Turned on with cotton

What is causing the problem:

  • Insufficient draft in the chimney.
  • Inoperative ignition retarder. Then the flame flares up with great force.
  • Igniter deflection. Return it to its original position.

In water heaters with electronic ignition, there may be such problems:

  • The batteries are dead.
  • The microswitch is broken.
  • The spark plug has moved.

Burner does not go out

If after turning off the water the column does not go out, then:

  • The membrane is stuck in the water block.
  • The rod is stuck, needs lubrication.
  • The gas valve is defective: it is necessary to diagnose and replace.

If you smell gas when you turn it on, immediately shut off the fuel supply, ventilate the premises and call the gas service.

We noticed that the flame in the burner is not blue, but orange. It’s time to clean the holes from dust and dirt.

The radiators of the device are also prone to burnouts and leaks: if they are noticed, repairs are needed. Detailed information in the article “How to solder a gas column».

It is not difficult to independently determine the cause of the failure of Vaillant boilers. For repair, you can contact the service department if you cannot solve the problem yourself. The video tells about the malfunctions of the equipment when turned on:
