Do-it-yourself repair and cleaning of aquastop

Most modern automatic machines are equipped with Aquastop leakage protection. It works in case of any leakage and automatically blocks the water supply to the washer. If the SMA does not take up fluid well or does not take it at all, the reason is most likely related to the breakdown of this mechanism. How to properly repair an aquastop, using the Bosch washing machine as an example, the author of the video on the Stiral Servis channel tells.

How does an avcastop work?

Aquastop in CMA is a multi-stage system for complete leak protection. One part of it (safety valve) is installed in the inlet hose,

the other is directly inside the automatic machine.

If there is a problem with the flow of liquid into the MCA (in our case, it does not enter the cuvette at all), then most likely the cause is clogging of the aquastop system meshes.

According to the author of the video, the lower the quality of the water in the water supply, the higher the likelihood of such a situation.

This is the most innocuous breakdown that can occur in an aquastop system. Solving it yourself is quite realistic. Another thing is if the filling valve is broken. Since it belongs to non-separable parts, its repair is often impossible. It will need a complete replacement.

The cleaning procedure is simple and not difficult. All you need is pliers and a screwdriver.

Hose cleaning

The procedure involves cleaning two inlet strainers located one after the other on the inlet hose from possible blockage.

What do we have to do:

  1. Pull out the outer strainer with pliers.
  2. Clean it from clogging with a brush and rinse thoroughly.
  3. Pull out the second grid and rinse too. If it’s clean, just put it back.
  4. Insert the first grid in place.

Let’s move on to cleaning the outer meshes. To do this, you will have to partially disassemble the automatic machine.

Valve cleaning

To clean, they must first be removed from the washer.

How to proceed:

  1. Remove the top cover of the washing machine by unscrewing the mounting bolts.
  2. Disconnect all connectors and tubes.
  3. Move the latches that fix the part, pull the structure out of the SMA body.

Now it remains to unscrew the four bolts from the protective block and remove the valve itself.

The next photo shows the location of the additional mesh.

To get to it, you need to disconnect (unscrew) the pipe from the structure itself.

Now you should thoroughly rinse and wipe the contaminated strainer.

If the seal is worn or damaged, it is best to replace it with a new one. This security measure will avoid possible leaks in the future.

Now it remains to twist the parts and put everything back into the SMA case. The procedure is carried out in reverse order.

Well, the result of the work done is visible in the photo below. SMA works, which means that the cause of the problem has been successfully eliminated.

It is not difficult to clean Aquastop and replace worn gaskets with your own hands. However, if you have doubts about your abilities, it is safer, of course, to seek help from a specialist.
