One of the types of passive fishing for a predator is the use of a circle for catching pike. This method has been used for a long time, only slightly different materials were used for the base than now. The equipment has not changed over the years, the monk and live bait on a high-quality hook will perfectly cope with the capture of a predator in different types of reservoirs.
What is a circle and how does it work
The circle for pike fishing has a very simple device, even a beginner can build such tackle. Do-it-yourself tackle is made in most cases, purchased options from the store are often not at all pleasing in quality, and it is sometimes not so easy to find them.
Tackle description
The design of classic circles for a predator has not changed over the years, different subspecies are equipped in the same way. Usually foam is used for their manufacture, but there are other types of models. Anglers with experience now recommend building three types of circles for pike fishing:
tackle subspecies | constituents |
classic circle | consists of a body and a rod, otherwise it does not differ from other subspecies |
can | as a basis for collecting gear, a can of condensed milk is used |
plastic bottle | use an empty plastic bottle with a capacity of 0,5 l to 1,5 l |
As a rule, all three types are equipped in the same way, they differ only in the base, on which the fishing line is wound with the rest of the components.
Advantages and disadvantages
Circles for pike fishing have positive and negative sides, it is impossible to evaluate this tackle unequivocally good or bad.
Among the advantages are:
- the possibility of fishing both the coastal zone and the depths;
- the use of circles as an additional option for catching a catch, while the circles are standing, you can work with spinning or get a float;
- the availability of gear in financial terms, it will require minimal investment to collect it.
But this gear also has disadvantages:
- without a watercraft, it will be problematic to use circles for pike, it will not work out exactly in promising places;
- using live bait as bait, it is not always possible to catch the required amount of a decent size;
- not everyone will be able to plant the live bait correctly the first time.
No matter what, the manufacture of circles for catching predators and, in particular, pike, is very popular. They continue to be made today according to long-established unspoken laws.
Manufacture by own hands
Not everyone knows how to make a circle for a pike, but this process is not at all complicated and will not take much time. The main thing is to prepare the necessary materials and tools, as well as to know the order of work. Special skills are not needed, everything is simple and accessible even for a child.
Necessary materials
Depending on what type of mugs is planned to be made, and materials are selected different.
Anglers with experience recommend initially making several types, and then after fishing, determine the most convenient one for yourself.
Depending on the manufactured subspecies and materials, different ones will be required:
- for a classic mug, you will need a piece of foam, a wooden block for the mast, and equipment;
- a small tin, preferably from condensed milk, a piece of wire of a decent diameter, as well as equipment for fishing;
- without an empty plastic bottle, it will not be possible to assemble pike fishing tackle, in addition, you will need a couple of stationery rubber bands and equipment to catch a predator.
In order for the tackle to be clearly visible on the water, additional paint is used, usually bright red or orange is chosen for this. It is these colors that are perfectly visible on the water, an inverted tackle with a trophy is immediately noticed.
How to make
Making circles for pike fishing at home is fast, the main thing is to get used to it. For each of the subspecies, the manufacturing process will vary slightly, but there will also be common points. Homemade mugs are made like this:
- The classic circle for pike begins to be made from the fact that a blank with a diameter of about 15 cm is cut out of the foam, while the thickness should be at least 2 cm. The corners are cleaned with sandpaper, on the one hand the foam is painted red and allowed to dry. The keel is made separately from hardwood; it consists of a mast and a glued wooden ball. The dimensions must be chosen so that the diameter of the circle and the length of the keel are the same.
- To make from a tin, you need the can itself, it is usually taken from condensed milk. The main thing here is to remove the contents correctly, for this, small holes, about 3 mm, are made in the bottom and on the lid of the jar. Remove the contents from there, rinse well and dry gently so that the edges retain the factory soldering. Small ears are made of wire and inserted into holes, then soldered to prevent water from entering. one half of the jar is painted, the second remains natural.
- It is easiest to build a do-it-yourself circle for pike fishing from a plastic bottle. It is enough to make a hole in the neck under the lid itself and tie the finished tackle there.
After that, it remains only to equip the selected view and go fishing.
Equipping circles
We found out how to make mugs for pike fishing in summer or in open water in other seasons. It remains the case for small things, to properly equip them, in order to collect good tackle you will need:
- 10-15 m monks of good quality;
- a sliding sinker of sufficient weight;
- strong leash;
- sharp hook;
- active bait.
Next, all the components must be connected. The fishing line is wound on the selected base, a load is first attached to it and it is sure to stop it with rubber stoppers. Further, a leash is knitted through the swivel, to which a double or tee is attached. All that remains is to bait the bait at the place of fishing and set the tackle.
Features of fishing
Ready tackle must be able to install in the right place, because pike will not be caught throughout the reservoir.
Choosing the right place
In open water, pike with circles are hunted in standard parking lots. Promising places for the parking of a predator are:
- eyebrows;
- rolls;
- pit places;
- near the pine tree;
- along the grasslands.
The mugs placed in these places will definitely bring the result.
Features of fishing by season
Weather conditions greatly affect the behavior of fish, and pike in particular. That is why when going fishing, even with mugs, it is worth considering the season, this will affect the strength of the tackle, as well as the size of the live bait:
- in the spring, a small fish is chosen, and the tackle is collected more tender. A fishing line with a diameter of 0,25 will be quite enough, and the leashes are made of thin flute.
- In summer, more depths are caught with tackle than in spring, and the tackle is collected more seriously. The fishing line is set 0,3-035 mm, the leash is thicker, and the live bait is chosen larger.
- In autumn, trophy pikes are caught on mugs. Therefore, the equipment must be appropriate, the fishing line must withstand at least 15 kg of load, and the leash at least 10. The live bait is set at about 10-15 cm and is very active.
- In winter, mugs are also used, during this period the fish are inactive and cautious, which means that the tackle should not be thick. Fishing line 0,25 mm in diameter is enough, the leash is usually made of flure with a small weight.
Proper equipment will be the key to successful fishing, and it is better to observe the above subtleties.
Useful Tips
Without advice from more experienced comrades, fishing is unlikely to be successful if you do not know or use some tricks and subtleties. We will reveal some of them right now:
- You should not make the keel in foam cups high; in windy weather, it will help to flip the tackle without biting.
- Fluorocarbon or steel is most often used as a leash, other options will be powerless in front of pike teeth.
- You should not immediately swim to the triggered circle after the bite, you need to give the predator time to swallow the bait well for 5-10 minutes. And then swim up and pinpoint.
- It is not advisable to equip the mugs with a cord; the tackle will turn out to be more durable, but very noticeable in the water.
- Small fish from the same reservoir where they are fishing are used as live bait, it can be ruffs, roach, crucians, even small perches.
Otherwise, you need to watch and learn, experience will come with age. The more fishing trips, the faster and better the fisherman will be able to lay out and install tackle, as well as correctly choose promising places, therefore a good catch is guaranteed to him.
