Do-it-yourself LG dishwasher repair

The LG company produces modern equipment, which is equipped with the latest developments and technologies. The dishwasher is no exception, but, despite the quality, it is prone to breakdowns. The appearance of malfunctions is facilitated by: improper installation, operation of the dishwasher, the quality of the detergents used.

You can repair LG dishwashers yourself.

Error codes for dishwashers “ElGee” are collected and described in detail in a separate article.

Causes of breakdowns of the dishwasher “LG”

Before starting repairs, you need to find out why the dishwasher broke. This can be done thanks to the PMM self-diagnosis system – usually, in the event of a breakdown, a code is displayed on the display. If there is no display, the indicators on the control panel start flashing. Having deciphered the code, you can understand where to look for the problem.

Pay attention to the signals that the dishwasher gives. If it began to buzz during operation, or the dishes are poorly washed, you need to inspect the equipment.

Below are the main symptoms and causes of malfunctioning dishwashers “ElGee”:

  • Water is poured into the car, but the wash does not start. What’s the matter? In a mess. This is what is checked first. The filter, spray nozzles could be clogged. Perhaps the circulation pump, which pumps water into the machine, has failed.
  • If water overflows in the dishwasher, you need to check the pressure switch. Leakage may occur if the sensor fails. It is necessary to diagnose and replace the pressure switch.
  • The dishes are poorly washed, the water does not heat up. The reason may be a breakdown of the thermistor, heating element or their wiring.
  • After the completed washing cycle, the water does not drain from the tank. The drain pump is being diagnosed, the resistance of the windings is checked with a multimeter. If the part is in good condition, the drain path is checked for blockage: filter, pump, hose, siphon.
  • The dishwasher does not turn on. Faulty network, fuses or sockets. Diagnostics and replacement of broken parts.
  • Leak. If the tank leaks, it will be difficult to replace it. Connections and tightness of hoses, seals on the door are inspected.

If an error is displayed on the machine screen, do not rush to take action. Reboot immediately: disconnect the PMM from the power supply for 15-20 minutes. After connecting, the code did not appear? Then get on with your work.

How to repair a dishwasher with your own hands

How to troubleshoot typical malfunctions of LG dishwashers is described in the instructions. The structure of equipment of different brands may differ slightly, so before you start repairing, make sure exactly where this or that part is located.

PMM does not start the wash cycle

Inspect and clean the main filter. How to do it:

  • Disconnect the machine from power. Shut off the water supply.
  • Open the hopper door.
  • Pull out the baskets and dish trays.
  • Below is the filter.
  • Pull it out of the case.
  • Depending on the PMM model, there may be a metal mesh behind the filter. It also needs to be pulled out.
  • Wash the parts using a stiff brush.

If the nozzles are clogged, cleaning their holes is quite simple:

  • Remove the top and bottom spray arms.
  • Clean their holes with a toothpick.

If the fasteners fail, the rocker arms will not rotate, so washing dishes will be of poor quality. Replacing the elements will help correct the situation:

  • Remove the bottom rocker.
  • Using the grip, unscrew the sprinkler mount.
  • Then tighten the fasteners by hand and remove from the seat.
  • Fasten the new fasteners and install the sprinkler.

If the upper yoke is attached to the basket, you need to remove the limiters:

  • take out the upper basket;
  • press and unscrew the sprinkler;
  • install the new rocker arm in reverse order.

Installing a new circulation pump (motor) will be difficult. However, it is quite possible to perform an independent replacement.

Why is a pump replacement necessary? He is responsible for supplying water to the tank of the machine, to the nozzles and sprinklers. A sign of a problem with the pump will be noise during operation.

What do we have to do:

  1. After emptying the hopper from the baskets, pull out the filter.
  2. Use a sponge to remove the remaining water under the filter.
  3. Put the technique on its back to gain access to the bottom.
  4. First you need to disconnect the drain pump.
  5. Unscrew the pump mount.
  6. Turn it clockwise and remove.
  7. Disconnect the connectors from the engine.
  8. Depress the metal spring that secures the motor to the housing.
  9. Grab loosen the clamps and disconnect the hoses going to the pump.
  10. It remains to remove the metal clip from the old pump and install it on the new one. Assembly is carried out in reverse order.

Too much water in the tank

If the dishwasher tank is full of water, the dishes are not washed well, or there is a leak, check the level sensor. Why is the sensor not working? Perhaps the pressure switch has already worn out, its contacts have burned out, or the tube has become clogged. Before replacing, check and clear the tube from blockage.

Look in the instructions for exactly where the pressure switch is located in your model. In LG dishwashers, the part can be located below or behind the case.

Consider the last option:

  • remove the rear panel of the PMM by unscrewing the mounting bolts;
  • disconnect the pressure switch hose;
  • unscrew the fixture of the device;
  • disconnect wiring;
  • install a new part and check the operation of the machine.

Heater not working

The reason for the lack of heating in the dishwasher may be a faulty heating element, as well as a thermistor that measures the heating temperature in the tank. If the diagnostics showed a breakdown of the temperature sensor, it needs a replacement.

How to repair, we will tell you:

  • open access to the bottom of the PMM;
  • disconnect the drain and circulation pump as described above;
  • a thermistor is attached to the pump assembly housing;
  • remove the thermostat cover, disconnect the wires;
  • press the fastening latches, pull the part out of the seat;
  • put the sealing ring on the new thermostat;
  • lubricate the seal to easily install into the socket; detergent can be used
  • install in reverse order.

Drain problems

When water does not leave the tank well, the drain path and pump are checked first. How to get to the pump, you already know. Consider how to clean the drain from blockage. Food debris, debris, glass fragments – all this gets into the drain and blocks the system.

  1. Take out the drain filter. Clean the part.
  2. Open the pump cover. To do this, press and pull it up.
  3. Remove foreign objects and debris from the impeller area.
  4. Disconnect and clean the drain hose.
  5. The last stage of the check is the cleaning of the siphon and sewerage. Use special tools for this.

Dishwasher won’t turn on

Trying to run a program but the control panel is not responding? Technique does not show signs of life at all? Connect another appliance to the dishwasher. If it works, then proceed with the inspection.

What to do:

  • if the network cable is damaged, it must be replaced;
  • if the fuses on the electronic board blow, repair will be required.

The most unpleasant breakdown is related to the control module. You can’t repair it with your own hands – you can damage the part even more. It is better to contact the service center or call the master.

Leak repair

A labor-intensive repair will be necessary if the PMM tank leaks – you will have to completely disassemble the equipment. When hoses leak, they are immediately replaced with new ones, loose connections are tightened.

Did you find a leak from the side of the door? Probably the seals are worn out. Replacing them is simple – remove the old seal around the perimeter and install a new one.

You can deal with problems in the LG dishwasher with your own hands. But there are also such breakdowns that require the intervention of a specialist. Be attentive to technical issues.
