Do-it-yourself connection of the dishwasher to the water supply

Thought you bought a dishwasher and you can use it right away? But what about the installation and connection of equipment? Many people think about calling a master to carry out the work. Do not rush to spend money – we will tell you how to properly connect the dishwasher to the water supply.

Features of installation and connection

Do you want your dishwasher to last at least 10 years? Then start by choosing a place to install. This is important, since the complexity of connecting water will depend on the washing distance.

Here are the basic requirements:

  • If you have not provided a place for appliances in advance, try to place it next to the sink. The sewer should not be more than 1,5 m long. The hoses can be extended, but the pump will work in enhanced mode to pump water to such a distance. In addition, excess connections increase the likelihood of leakage.
  • Waterproof socket. It should be located at a distance of 45 cm from the floor, since the dishwasher’s power cord is quite short. If you do not have a separate outlet, then you need to conduct it. For safety reasons, it is forbidden to connect the machine through a tee or carrying.

First of all, electrical wiring is organized, a socket is displayed. Then you need to connect the drain and organize a drain to the sewer. Now the plumbing work can begin.

Which water is better to connect the dishwasher

Does the appliance work without hot water? To find out exactly if hot water is needed when connecting, look in the instructions for what kind of water the dishwasher is washing. Most models provide connection to a cold drain. Why:

  1. Poor quality of hot water in the plumbing. There are too many lime impurities, rust, which settle on filters and equipment parts.
  2. Periodic shutdown for preventive purposes.
  3. For normal operation of the dishwasher, the water temperature should not exceed 60-65 degrees. In the water supply, no one regulates the temperature, and often it exceeds the norm. As a result, the system either mixes the cold and hot flow on its own, or the water enters in its pure form, which affects the operation of the machine.
  4. The high flow temperature renders the water softener ion exchanger unusable.

The connection method is specified in the instruction manual. In the case of a supply to hot water, special hoses with enhanced protection are included.

How to connect PMM with your own hands

Immediately think about what tools and parts you may need. Get everything ready and then get to work.

Components:

  • Tee with a thread diameter of ¾ inch. It is better to choose a brass or bronze tee with a stopcock. These materials are more durable and reliable than plastic and brass.
  • Flow filter. It will stop large particles of debris at the inlet, protect the inlet hose and filter mesh from clogging.
  • The squeezing coupling for tapping into the pipeline.
  • Fum tape.
  • Additional hose, adapter.

Tools:

  • Flat and Phillips screwdriver.
  • Pliers.
  • Wrench.

If the regular hose that came with the machine does not suit you, you can buy another one with Aquastop protection. It looks like this:

Inside the plastic case is an absorbent sponge. After a leak, the sponge absorbs moisture and swells, blocking the flow of water into the system. What is Aquastop protection, read in our article.

If you have a built-in dishwasher, you can first install it in place, and then organize the water supply. There are two connection options:

  1. through the mixer.
  2. Pipe cutting method.

One end of the hose is placed on the outlet of the dishwasher, the nut is tightened. The other end connects to the water outlet under the sink. Let’s consider both options.

Through mixer:

  1. Close the inlet valve.
  2. Unscrew the mixer hose from the pipe.
  3. In its place, install a tee with a tap.
  4. Connect the mixer hose to one outlet, and the flow filter and PMM hose to the other.
  5. Rewind threaded connections with fum-tape. Seal the threads 10-15 times.

Connection diagram:

If the pipe passes near the equipment, it makes no sense to stretch the hose to the sink. You can embed yourself in the pipe.

  1. Close the inlet hose.
  2. Cut off a part of the pipe with a grinder and install a squeeze sleeve.
  3. Screw the valve with a ball mechanism to the coupling.
  4. Screw the end of the dishwasher hose onto the faucet outlet. For additional devices, it is better to install a tee.

Judging by user reviews, an easier way is to connect through a mixer.

As you can see, you can install it yourself if you wish. Pre-read the instructions for your PMM, and also watch a video on the topic:
