Do-it-yourself compound feed for laying hens
A balanced diet for laying hens is a prerequisite for good egg production. Specially developed recipes allow you to prepare compound feed for laying hens yourself.
The correct composition of compound feed for laying hens
The poultry body must receive trace elements, vitamins and other useful substances in order to resist diseases and maintain egg production at a good level.
Most of the feed is whole or crushed grain. Vegetable residues, raw vegetables, oils and mineral supplements are added to it. A properly formulated diet contains up to 20% protein and 6% fiber. It is the high% of fiber in the diet that prevents the bird from gaining weight and maintains egg production at the desired level.
The optimal composition of compound feed for layers:
- grain mixture of three types of grain – 750 g;
- cake or sunflower meal – 100 g;
- bone residue – 150 g;
- hay or plant residues – 50 g;
- feed yeast – 50 g;
- peas or pea flour – 40 g;
- food leftovers or vegetables – 200 g;
- chalk or mineral complex – 70 g.
Such compound feed must be fed to the bird immediately so that it is not stored for a long time. If you prepare compound feed for storage in advance, then food waste, vegetables, yeast and plant residues are added to it immediately before use.
How to prepare compound feed for laying hens with your own hands
To prepare a grain mixture for compound feed, it is necessary to mix corn, wheat and barley in different proportions. Most should be corn kernels. The finished grain mixture may contain, for example, three parts of whole corn and two parts each of crushed wheat and barley. This technique promotes good digestion in poultry.
As vitamin supplements in season, you can mix boiled potatoes, fresh carrots, beets, pumpkin, cabbage, zucchini and other vegetables and fruits. In addition, the herb will not be superfluous in the composition, for example wheatgrass, plantain, dandelion. Grass and vegetables are crushed and added to feed before consumption.
You should not add sweet and white bread, as well as spoiled foods to the feed.
Feed the chickens dry or prepare wet mash. It is better to knead the feed in skim milk, skimmed milk, vegetable or meat broth.
Pay close attention to the behavior of the laying hens, and they themselves will tell you which grain they like best. The plumage of the bird and its behavior are better indicators. Use fresh food and grain without foreign smells for the preparation of compound feed, then the high egg production of your chickens is guaranteed.
