Technology

Synthetic and blended fabrics do not absorb moisture well, so they are not suitable for cement treatment. To make a garden vase from cement mortar, any hygroscopic fabric is suitable: burlap, terry or waffle towel, any material based on natural fibers.

Preparation of the solution

To prepare the solution, you will need ordinary gray cement or white Portland cement of the M-400 or M-500 brand, fine-grained quarry sand and purified water. Pre-sifted and cleaned of debris, sand is mixed with cement, adhering to a ratio of 1: 1. Water must be introduced gradually so that lumps do not form in the solution. Using an electric drill and a mixer nozzle, mix the mixture thoroughly. A homogeneous mass should have the consistency of thick sour cream.

There are other options for preparing a solution for making homemade garden vases. Cement (Portland cement) is mixed with quarry fine-grained sand and gravel with a fraction of not more than 3–7 mm in a ratio of 1:2:1. To get a solution that is an imitation of sandstone or tuff, you need to mix cement, sand and peat in a ratio of 1:1:2.

Application to fabric

The algorithm for making a flower vase from concrete and a piece of fabric for a garden is as follows:

  1. Prepare cement mortar.
  2. Wrap a flower pot, bucket, bowl, or other container in heavy-duty plastic wrap. Turn the container upside down and place on a hill.
  3. Soak the fabric with cement mortar.
  4. Hang the fabric on the container. Carefully straighten the fabric at the bottom and shape the folds.
  5. Leave the fabric to dry. After a few days, the flowerpot will be ready for use.

Decor

A gray vase looks dull and dull. You can diversify the design and decorate the flower pot by painting the product with acrylic paints or by tinting the fabric with concrete color. Using silicate glue instead of water when mixing the solution will remove the roughness of the surface.

Additional decor with multi-colored stones, beads, rhinestones or glitter will emphasize the sophistication and originality of the flower vase.

Decoupage crafts look interesting. A garden vase made of cement mortar and a rag is treated with a primer, on top of which fragments of patterns from napkins are applied. A fixing layer to increase strength and resistance to various damage to the pattern is the application of a colorless varnish.

Other options

Some summer residents are skeptical about fabric flowerpots, considering such a composition to be short-lived and impractical. However, instead of a cloth, you can use an old flower pot, a plastic bowl, a metal bucket, a mesh fan cover, and any other container of the original form. The manufacturing technique does not differ from the option described above. The container is covered with a dense film, coated with a solution of cement, allowed to dry well and decorated.

Flower vases made for summer cottages emphasize the aesthetic appeal of the site, give it originality and sophistication of style. Each vase made of cement mortar and hygroscopic fabric is unique.
