Do I need to wash nuts before eating

The very phrase – to wash the nuts – sounds somehow strange. However, it is worth considering.

A nursing mom needs to choose nuts carefully.

When considering whether you need to wash the nuts, just imagine what path this product has traveled and in what conditions it was kept during transportation and storage. In shops and kiosks, nuts are on the counter, on which everything does not fall from the hands and clothes of buyers and sellers. Have you presented? But a simple washing procedure will get rid of dirt, dust and microbes. However, you need to know how to do it correctly.

How to wash nuts before cleaning?

If you bought inshell walnuts, rinse them thoroughly under warm running water before cleaning. This is necessary to remove debris and dirt from the surface. After washing, the nuts must be dried naturally or using household appliances.

To get rid of microbes gathered on the surface of the shell, it is necessary to process the nuts with boiling water:

  • place products in a spacious container;
  • pour boiling water over, stir and leave for 30 minutes;
  • carefully remove the nuts with a slotted spoon and rinse under running warm water.

The nuts must be removed, since if the water is drained, the debris that has settled at the bottom will again appear on the surface of the shell. After scalding, they will open easily because the fibrous structure will soften.

How to wash other varieties of nuts?

The pretreatment process depends on the type of nuts:

  1. Peanuts grow in the ground, so be sure to wash them before cleaning and eating. You can get rid of germs by scalding with boiling water. Once removed from the water, they must be dried in the microwave or oven.
  2. Pour the hazelnuts with boiling water and leave for five minutes, then remove with a slotted spoon.
  3. The coconuts should be rinsed with water and the fibrous structure removed from the site of the subsequent puncture. This will prevent dirt and fibers from getting under the hard shell when cutting the walnut.
  4. Pine nuts are washed with water before use and then fried in the oven.

All products of this type require preliminary processing.

Do I need to wash the nuts if they are already peeled

Peeled nuts bought in a store or at the market must be washed with warm, but not hot water before use. Then they should be dried naturally or using household appliances: microwave oven, oven, dryer. This applies to products of different varieties: cashews, peanuts, hazelnuts, and so on.

Before eating nuts, be sure to rinse with water. This will get rid of germs, as well as remove debris, dirt and foreign matter that accidentally gets into the food.
