Is clove an effective treatment for toothache?

Hello. My tooth hurts. The pain has been bothering me for about two weeks, I thought it might go away, but I don’t want to. Unfortunately, I am currently abroad and I do not have the possibility to see a dentist. I will of course do it as soon as I come back to Poland, but it will definitely take a while. However, I remember that in my family there was information that cloves help for toothache. I don’t usually believe such things, but now I’m pretty desperate because I really can’t go to the dentist and the pain is getting excruciating.

However, stuffing yourself with painkillers is not an option either. How is it – do cloves help with toothache? Or is it just a myth not worth believing? And if cloves actually help with toothache, I would like to ask how to apply them? I feel like chewing them, but I’m not sure about that, so I’d rather ask. How to use cloves so that they actually help? Or are there any other home remedies that will help me? I will be grateful for your help.

When he performs with us toothache first of all, you should make an appointment with a dentist who will determine the cause of the ailments. Self-treatment with home remedies can neglect the disease and lead to serious complications. Toothache is an alarming symptom that may indicate an ongoing pathology. This ailment can be a symptom of many diseases, e.g. caries, sinusitis, gingivitis, inflammation of the tooth pulp, abscess, hypersensitivity, mechanical trauma, the eruption of eights and many others.

However, when a toothache appears suddenly and we have to wait for an appointment at the dentist’s, we can reach for measures that will temporarily alleviate it. We can try to relieve pain with painkillers available at the pharmacy, e.g. paracetamol or NSAIDs, e.g. ibuprofen. Remember to read the leaflet beforehand and if you are in doubt as to whether you can take such medicine, consult your doctor.

Dried cloves are a very popular spice used, for example, in tea, available in almost every grocery store. Hence, it is often found in our homes and we can reach for it when needed. Cloves are the buds of a clove tree that have not bloomed. Due to the substances contained in them (eugenol), they have antiseptic and analgesic properties. Eugenol is responsible for the strong spicy aroma of the spice and the characteristic numbness of the tongue. The dried clove should be taken in the mouth, moved to the place of the aching tooth and chewed. This will release the therapeutic substance.

Unfortunately, the pain relieving effect of clove is temporary and not always effective. Cloves can sensitize, especially when we consume them in excessive amounts and cause, for example, swelling. One of the side effects is the effect of reducing blood clotting. This should be borne in mind.

Remember that only removing the causes of toothache will help you get rid of it permanently. That is why we should not delay the visit to the dentist.
