Feeder is a type of fishing that does not require too much cost for fishing tackle. But you can make them even lower if you make some of them yourself. Moreover, catching on a feeder, when a lot is done with your own hands, is much more pleasant.

What can be done for fishing on the feeder

Long gone are the days when anglers made most of the gear themselves. Feeder is an exception. For fishing in this way, enough gear is produced. You can just come to the store and buy everything you need – from a rod and reel to a seat and a box with feeders. And all this will work without additional alteration. However, much of what is sold is expensive. And a lot of what you do yourself is better than store bought. Here is a short list of what you can make at home:

And they are perfect for feeder fishing, coping as well as specialized ones.

Do-it-yourself feeder rod: manufacturing and alteration

It’s no secret that not all anglers can afford a new rod at all. There are different situations in which you have to fish on a feeder with a home-made or adapted rod for a feeder: the only working feeder broke on the last fishing trip, you want to try a new type of fishing, but do not spend money on buying a new rod, the desire to get an additional feeder rod in addition to the main or or other options. Of course, a store-bought rod specially designed for feeder fishing will be better than a homemade one made by a non-professional.

The easiest way to do this is to make a homemade telescopic feeder. To do this, you need to purchase a cheap telescopic spinning rod in the store, or use the old one. Even a rod with a broken upper knee will do.

Another option is to use an adapted rod. Quite soft spinning rods with a length of 2.4 to 2.7 meters are suitable. As a rule, these are cheap rods costing up to 1500 rubles. The tip of them should be whole and thin enough. The material of such a spinning rod is only fiberglass, since you will have to throw it with an overload, and cheap coal will immediately break.

A full-fledged feeder from such a spinning rod is unlikely to work, but you can use this rod as a picker. The whole tip quite tolerably indicates a bite.

It is recommended to throw a load of no more than 40 grams, but when fishing on a pond, this is quite enough. For comfortable fishing, it is worth changing the rings on the upper knee to smaller ones and placing them more often, every 20-30 cm. You should follow the line along which the rings stood before. The monolithic tip will show a bite, and if necessary, they can be caught on spinning to a limited extent by placing another reel and fishing line and tying a spinner.

Should I remake a rod for a feeder from a spinning rod with inserted knees? No, it’s not worth it. Usually such rods are quite expensive, and a ready-made feeder will cost less. And in terms of functionality, even an inexpensive purchased feeder will bypass a home-made one made by a beginner in rodbuilding. There is, however, an option to use broken spinning rods. The one that only broke the top near the tulip will do. It can be remade by making an insert for a replacement tip.

Homemade feeder tips

Any angler who is familiar with a feeder knows that rod tips are a consumable item. During the season, at least two or three break down, and you have to constantly buy them in the store. But you can make the tips for the feeder yourself, using cheaper components, and save up to 50% of the money! Fiberglass tips are made.

It is better to do this in a large batch, about 20-30 pieces. To do this, you need to buy a semi-finished product in the store – fiberglass whips. The price of such a whip is from 1 to 2 dollars. The whip is clamped from the butt to the drill, which is fixed in a vise. Then a skin is applied to it, and it is grinded to the desired thickness. When working, it is advisable to pour water on the whip and use leather gloves, as fiberglass can dig into your hands and clog the air. So you can get the tips of any sensitivity.

After processing, the butt is ground to the desired thickness, which is suitable for your feeder. Rings from old broken quiver-types, bought in a store or homemade, are installed on the tip. It is desirable that the rings are as light as possible and they need to be placed quite often. If a braided cord is used, it is better to buy rings with ceramic inserts.

At the end, painting is done with a bright nitro paint. The tips can be marked by putting it in the rod and seeing under what load it will bend 90 degrees – this is the quiver tip test. As a result, it turns out to save up to $ 2 on each home-made feeder signaling device if you buy all semi-finished products in bulk or use spare parts from broken gear. In the same way, you can make nods for the feeder, which are more used in bottom fishing.

Many anglers look at feeders and are amazed at how many different coasters are used when fishing. This is a pair of stands in front of the angler, so that you can catch several different points with different casting sectors, the second pair is for the butt of the rod, another stand on the side to put the rod on it while fishing, when you remove the fish, fill the feeder and change the nozzle and a couple more stands on which ready-made spare rods lie.

Of course, you can get by with three – two to install an abandoned feeder and one on the side, on which the rod is placed to take the fish. Many consider this unnecessary, since you can cut the flyer from bushes growing along the banks of the reservoir like weeds. But those who have used coasters know that they are much more convenient, and time is not wasted preparing a place for fishing.

All these coasters have a different configuration, and their price in the store is quite high. But you can use cheap flyer stands that cost a little over a dollar, and then make wide feeder stands out of them, allowing you to shift the rod in a large sector.

For manufacturing, a cheap flyer stand is taken, usually used in float fishing. You can take both short and telescopic ones. The most convenient stands screwed into the ground, as they do not warp if you put the rod close to the edge. The flyer from the top is twisted and sawn off. We only need the threaded part that goes into the rack. She pulls out carefully.

After that, a polypropylene pipe is taken at 16 and a heater for it of a suitable diameter. The pipe is bent so that the side stops of the stand of the desired shape are obtained – a corner, a ringlet or a hook. You can bend by heating the pipe over the gas and holding it in welding gloves so as not to burn your hands. Then a hole is drilled in it in the middle, slightly smaller than the diameter of the threaded insert. The insert into the pipe can be put in different ways – put on glue, fixed with a screw or, after heating, pressed into polypropylene. The author uses pasted.

Then a pipe insulation is put on the pipe, a hole is cut out under the insert. The rod, placed on such a stand, is not injured, clearly keeps its position due to the roughness of the polypropylene coat. Stand resistant to water, UV and mechanical damage.

If desired, you can make other stands according to the same principle, using purchased or made from other materials – old canes, ski poles, tubes, etc. The main thing is that they are collapsible, light enough, and that the rod does not have direct contact with metal, and lay on a soft lining. Contact with metal and stones during fishing will certainly kill the rod, especially the ringing coal. Cracks will certainly form in it, and the probability of breakage will increase. For example, if a bent wire stand is made, it is necessary to hide it before use in a dropper hose so as not to injure the rod while fishing.

Feeders for feeder

Many people know that for feeder fishing, you can make feeders yourself from lead and a plastic bottle. These are the so-called “chebaryuks”, named after the inventor, which are an oblong lead load with an eye for fastening and a plastic cylinder with holes attached on top of the load into which food is poured. The cylinder is hollow on both sides, delivers food even to great depths and to the current without scattering and gives it satisfactorily. Such a homemade feeder feeder is best suited for catching bream in the current.

However, not everyone knows that the process of making a chebaryuk feeder can be simplified. For this, thickened plastic from a bottle is used. The bottle is heated over the fire, as a result, it shrinks slightly in size. The plastic bottle becomes much thicker. Feeders are made from such plastic.

Plastic sinkers are immediately installed in the casting mold with holes made in it, into which lead is poured during casting. Lead is not able to melt thick plastic, and even if it does, it does not affect the functionality of the feeder. As a result, we get rid of the operation of fastening the sinker, and the fastening itself is more reliable.

The most important question is where to get the lead. All the old lead-braided cables have long been dug up and handed over by homeless people, and it is expensive to buy tire fitting loads, which are recommended by most YouTube video authors. A simple option is to purchase the largest “hare” shot by weight in a hunting store. It is the cheapest source of lead available to any angler and is sold without a gun permit.

In this way, you can make many feeders for the feeder with your own hands and not be afraid to unhook them. He is very technological, does not involve any precise operations and special tools such as a riveter. The only thing that can be recommended from expensive components is an aluminum casting mold, which can be made to order at the factory. But if you make a lot of feeders, then this waste is justified, and if the angler himself is a milling machine, it’s not so difficult to make it during a lunch break. Feeder mounts and anti-twirls can also be made by anglers themselves and are the same consumables as feeders.

Seats and platforms

Feeder fishing is associated with a fishing platform. This is a special seat for a fisherman, on which the necessary rod stands and accessories are fixed. The platform is comfortable, has a backrest, a footrest and adjustable legs, with which it can be installed even on a steep uneven bank. For those who travel by car, the platform is very convenient.

Unfortunately, sitboxes and platforms are very expensive. A fairly high-quality and lightweight platform costs at least a thousand dollars. And good options with accessories are even more expensive. You can make a good platform yourself using blueprints and ready-made components purchased from medical equipment stores, shelving parts and other details. As a result, the platform will cost you two to three times cheaper, well, a little time spent and a couple of tools for work.

A great option is to use a winter box instead of a sitbox. It is handy, easy to carry to the fishing spot, and most anglers already have it. To install it on a slope, two methods are used – they attach a pair of legs to it on one side or install it by digging the bank under it. Both options take the same time, unless, of course, you have to put it on a concrete slope where you can’t dig. A metal garden scoop bought at a summer supply store will help to cope with the task, which will easily fit in the same box along with fishing accessories.

Another seat option is a regular bucket. By the way, it is better to buy it not in a fishing store, but in a construction store – it will cost three times cheaper. Sitting on the bucket is comfortable. You can take a couple of buckets nested one inside the other. In one, bait is prepared, on the other they sit and put fish in it. In order to sit comfortably, they make a plywood cover and upholster it with soft material. Fish can be placed in a bucket unnoticed by other fishermen. It is also convenient to store and transport live bait in a bucket if they are caught with a feeder for fishing on live bait. Unfortunately, if there are a lot of fish, you will have to make a fish tank for it, because it will not fit into the bucket.

Other accessories

For fishing, you can make a lot of other things – bait sieves, homemade liners, anti-twist, flat feeders for the feeder and more. Also, many anglers make homemade baits for the feeder, and they work just as well as serial ones. On sale you can find self-cutters for the feeder, the drawings of which are offered by a number of craftsmen, for money and for free. The author does not really understand the meaning of such fishing with a self-hook, but those who like it can try it. The main thing in this business is hands and desire.

After all, the feeder was originally born as a fishing for the poor, when the feeder was made from curlers, a home-made stand was sharpened from the legs of a chair, and the rod was used converted from a broken spinning rod. And if so, why pay more?
• Fishing bags. They are sold in fishing stores in the form of a box with a handle, which has a couple of compartments inside and small compartments on top where you can put hooks, fasteners and feeders. This again can be bought at a hardware store at a price three times lower. By the way, it is very comfortable to sit on it if the shore is flat and the suitcase is large enough.
• sectional boxes. These are boxes with a lid on a latch, with several compartments. Usually they store hooks, feeders, and other small accessories. In a fishing store, this will cost from three dollars and more. In a sewing store, the same boxes are sold for sewing supplies and cost two to three times cheaper. You can give a lot of examples when you can just buy the same thing cheaper and use it for fishing. However, the list is far from accurate, because sellers can change the prices of their goods. The main thing that can be advised to anglers is to seek and you will find. You have to be creative and imaginative, and you can always find a replacement for something you can’t afford.
