DIY cardboard furniture

As soon as a person hears the phrase “cardboard furniture”, a picture of a crumbling house of cards or, at best, a house for a doll in a children’s room appears before his eyes. Furniture specialists will convince consumers to cross out these ridiculous shots and believe that cardboard furniture is no longer a curiosity in our time.

It can be made, and it has several important advantages over wood or chipboard furniture:

  • environmentally friendly;

  • easy;

  • solid;

  • inexpensive.

Thus, such furniture will look creative and give you the opportunity to show off your work to your friends.

DIY cardboard furniture is real!

Enterprising Europeans were the first to grasp the benefits of sustainable material, and today cardboard furniture is popular in many countries.

What pieces of furniture lend themselves to the cardboard texture? Experts say that almost everything:

  • furniture for the children’s room;

  • bookshelves;

  • tables and chairs for the dining area;

  • office furniture;

  • racks for books or shoes;

  • armchairs;

  • beds and more.

The first thought that comes to mind is: what will give the cardboard strength? In fact, it is very durable initially. Has anyone tried to tear a cardboard sheet with your hands? No need to try, it won’t work. When making furniture, the material will be strong enough to withstand the weight of a person if the master takes the thickest cardboard possible.

Its thickness can be determined by the waves on the cut: the more of them, the stronger the cardboard. If necessary, you can glue several layers of material together, this will depend on what product is planned. The dark color of the cardboard also indicates its durability.

The best place to start is by making a simpler item, such as a table for a kid’s room. Stages of work:

  1. Bonding several layers of cardboard for strength with Moment glue;

  2. Creation of a “pattern” of the table surface and legs. For this purpose you need a jigsaw;

  3. Gluing parts together;

  4. Pasting the product with kraft paper to give the surface smoothness. First, the edges and seams are processed, then all other parts of the furniture;

  5. Decoration of the product.

DIY cardboard furniture is ready. Of course, this plan is schematic and each point requires a creative and more detailed approach and preparation. But if you wish and diligence, you will get cardboard masterpieces.
