Distance between trees when planting
The trees in the garden need living space. If, during the planning of the site, it is wrong to draw up a scheme for placing seedlings in the garden, they may not justify the gardener’s hopes for a bountiful harvest at the right time.
Why keep the distance between the garden trees
The reasons why seedlings are planted at a certain distance are obvious. But, wanting to plant more trees in a small area, gardeners do not always take them into account. Both the quality of the harvest and the health of the trees are losing from this.
The correct distance between trees must match the diameter of their adult crowns.
When drawing up a garden planning scheme, it is necessary to take into account climatic conditions, soil fertility, the type of tree and the shape of its crown in adulthood.
The root system must have enough soil from which it can receive nutrients. You need to know and maintain the distance between seedlings of fruit trees in order to harvest the maximum yield.
If the required distance between the seedlings is not observed, the garden can expect trouble after a few years. The quality of the crop will be poor due to the lack of nutrients and moisture in the roots of the trees. Plants will feel a lack of light and air, and their immunity will decrease. It will be difficult to deal with various diseases, harmful insects and viruses infecting the garden.
The distance between trees should leave free access to them so that it is convenient to care for – to trim the crown, treat pests and harvest.
Accepted distances between trees when planting
When planting, take into account the height of an adult tree and the width of its crown. Tall trees need a lot of space for development, varieties on a dwarf rootstock can be planted closer. The landing site should not be blown by northerly winds.
Tall trees are planted at a distance of 5-6 meters. Varieties on a dwarf rootstock can be planted at a distance of 3 meters. Dwarf columnar varieties of apple trees are placed at a distance of 0,5-0,7 m. Between plums and cherries, the distance is three meters. The distance between tall apple trees and pears is five meters, between low-growing ones – 4 meters.

You cannot plant trees with a spreading crown close to a neighbor’s plot, their branches will shade someone else’s land. If fruit bushes or vegetables are planted between apple trees and pears, you need to make sure that there is enough nutrients and moisture for everyone.
There are many fruit trees on sale that I would like to see in my garden. But the seedlings must have suitable growing conditions, so for small areas it is better to choose low-growing varieties on dwarf rootstocks.
