Disophrol Retard for rhinitis. How to use the preparation?

Disophrol Retard is used to relieve the symptoms of colds, seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and the symptoms of sinusitis. The preparation is a combined drug containing a sympathomimetic and an antihistamine. The medicine is in the form of prolonged-release tablets and is dispensed without a prescription.

Disophrol Retard – indications and dosage

Disophrol Retard is a drug recommended for the relief of symptoms of rhinitis in the course of:

  1. colds,
  2. seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis,
  3. sinusitis.

Drug dosage

Disophrol Retard is in the form of tablets for oral consumption. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the preparation as it may pose a threat to your life or health.

  1. Adults and children over 12 years of age. Orally. 1 tablet 2 × / d, after improving 1 tablet. 1 × / d.

Disophrol Retard and contraindications

There are the following contraindications to taking Disophrol Retard:

  1. allergy to any ingredient of the preparation,
  2. adrenomimetics or other drugs with a similar chemical structure,
  3. use of MAO inhibitors (in parallel or within the last 14 days),
  4. severe arterial hypertension,
  5. severe ischemic heart disease,
  6. overactive thyroid gland
  7. pregnancy,
  8. the period of breastfeeding,
  9. for use by children up to 12 years of age.

Disophrol Retard – drug restrictions

  1. The preparation may cause hyperactivity, especially in children.
  2. Caution should be exercised in patients with glaucoma, ulcer obstructing digestive passage, pylorus-duodenal obstruction, prostatic hyperplasia, obstruction of the bladder neck, elevated intraocular pressure, cardiovascular diseases, and patients with diabetes mellitus or angina.
  3. In people over 60 years of age, taking the drug may cause: dizziness, sedation, lowering blood pressure. Especially in this age group, there is an increased risk of developing side effects.
  4. People with hereditary fructose or galactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, lactase deficiency or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine because it contains lactose and sucrose.
  5. This medicine contains butyl parahydroxybenzoate, which causes allergic reactions.
  6. During the treatment with the drug, you should not drive or operate motor vehicles, because it causes impairment of psychomotor performance.

Disophrol Retard with other medications

  1. Simultaneous intake of MAO inhibitors increases and extends the duration of action of antihistamines.
  2. Taking other antihistamines in the form of: alcohol, tricyclic antidepressants, barbiturates, drugs depressing the central nervous system may increase the sedative effect of the preparation.
  3. The use of the drug may inhibit the effect of oral anticoagulants.
  4. Do not take Disophrol Retard with MAO inhibitors and within 14 days of completing treatment with these preparations, because arterial hypertension, including a hypertensive crisis, may occur.
  5. Do not take the preparation with drugs that block adrenergic receptors.
  6. Medicines that neutralize stomach acid increase the absorption of pseudoephedrine (from Disophrol Reraed), and kaolin reduces it.
  7. Taking the preparation with digitalis glycosides may increase the activity of the pacemaker.

Taking Disophrol Retard may cause the following side effects:

  1. somnolence,
  2. tremors
  3. seizures
  4. muscle cramps
  5. dizziness and headaches,
  6. palpitations,
  7. Heart arythmia,
  8. angina pains,
  9. cardiovascular collapse,
  10. anxiety,
  11. bow,
  12. dry nose and throat
  13. breathing disorders,
  14. nausea,
  15. vomiting,
  16. urination disorders or urinary retention,
  17. spasm of the bladder sphincter,
  18. rash,
  19. hives
  20. hypersensitivity reactions to sunlight,
  21. anaphylactic shock,
  22. increased sweating,
  23. hypertension,
  24. looking pale or red
  25. weakness.
