Disophrol Retard is used to relieve the symptoms of colds, seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and the symptoms of sinusitis. The preparation is a combined drug containing a sympathomimetic and an antihistamine. The medicine is in the form of prolonged-release tablets and is dispensed without a prescription.

Disophrol Retard – indications and dosage
Disophrol Retard is a drug recommended for the relief of symptoms of rhinitis in the course of:
- colds,
- seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis,
- sinusitis.
Drug dosage
Disophrol Retard is in the form of tablets for oral consumption. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the preparation as it may pose a threat to your life or health.
- Adults and children over 12 years of age. Orally. 1 tablet 2 × / d, after improving 1 tablet. 1 × / d.
Disophrol Retard and contraindications
There are the following contraindications to taking Disophrol Retard:
- allergy to any ingredient of the preparation,
- adrenomimetics or other drugs with a similar chemical structure,
- use of MAO inhibitors (in parallel or within the last 14 days),
- severe arterial hypertension,
- severe ischemic heart disease,
- overactive thyroid gland
- pregnancy,
- the period of breastfeeding,
- for use by children up to 12 years of age.
Disophrol Retard – drug restrictions
- The preparation may cause hyperactivity, especially in children.
- Caution should be exercised in patients with glaucoma, ulcer obstructing digestive passage, pylorus-duodenal obstruction, prostatic hyperplasia, obstruction of the bladder neck, elevated intraocular pressure, cardiovascular diseases, and patients with diabetes mellitus or angina.
- In people over 60 years of age, taking the drug may cause: dizziness, sedation, lowering blood pressure. Especially in this age group, there is an increased risk of developing side effects.
- People with hereditary fructose or galactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, lactase deficiency or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine because it contains lactose and sucrose.
- This medicine contains butyl parahydroxybenzoate, which causes allergic reactions.
- During the treatment with the drug, you should not drive or operate motor vehicles, because it causes impairment of psychomotor performance.
Disophrol Retard with other medications
- Simultaneous intake of MAO inhibitors increases and extends the duration of action of antihistamines.
- Taking other antihistamines in the form of: alcohol, tricyclic antidepressants, barbiturates, drugs depressing the central nervous system may increase the sedative effect of the preparation.
- The use of the drug may inhibit the effect of oral anticoagulants.
- Do not take Disophrol Retard with MAO inhibitors and within 14 days of completing treatment with these preparations, because arterial hypertension, including a hypertensive crisis, may occur.
- Do not take the preparation with drugs that block adrenergic receptors.
- Medicines that neutralize stomach acid increase the absorption of pseudoephedrine (from Disophrol Reraed), and kaolin reduces it.
- Taking the preparation with digitalis glycosides may increase the activity of the pacemaker.
Disophrol Retard – side effects
Taking Disophrol Retard may cause the following side effects:
- somnolence,
- tremors
- seizures
- muscle cramps
- dizziness and headaches,
- palpitations,
- Heart arythmia,
- angina pains,
- cardiovascular collapse,
- anxiety,
- bow,
- dry nose and throat
- breathing disorders,
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- urination disorders or urinary retention,
- spasm of the bladder sphincter,
- rash,
- hives
- hypersensitivity reactions to sunlight,
- anaphylactic shock,
- increased sweating,
- hypertension,
- looking pale or red
- weakness.
