Dishwasher stabilizer – how to choose

If you have read articles about connecting a dishwasher, then you know that this cannot be done without a stabilizer. Many neglect the recommendations of specialists, believing that this is a waste of money. But do not forget that with a sharp power surge, the dishwasher may fail. Then you will have to spend much more time and money on repairs or replacements. How to choose a stabilizer for a dishwasher, read the article.

Types of stabilizers

Do not rush to go to the online store to search for an inexpensive device. First make sure it fits your electrical outlet and dishwasher. Consider the types of stabilizers that are used in a home network:

  1. Electromechanical. Smooth adjustment of the output voltage thanks to the “slider” on the coil. Models are inexpensive, but slow to respond to changes in the network – in 1 second.
  2. Ferroresonant. Big power and high price. They are not recommended for connection in the dishwasher. Ferro resonant models are too bulky and more suitable for industrial equipment.

There is also a third type of stabilizers – stepped.

It is divided into the following subtypes:

  • With relay switch. The cheapest. Responds to changes in the network faster than electromechanical. However, according to experts, it is the most unreliable, it often breaks down.
  • Electronic, with variable voltage. Controlled by triacs and thyristors. High switching speed – from 0,2 seconds. The cost is higher than the previous options, but it is justified by the high reliability of the product.
  • Inverter. With the help of a rectifier, it converts direct current into alternating current, suitable for household appliances. During the conversion, it corrects interference in the network. The disadvantage is the low power of the inverter – from 2 to 10 kVA.

You got acquainted with the types of regulators. Now you need to calculate which one will suit your technique.

Calculation of parameters for the dishwasher

Buying a stabilizer is not cheap. Therefore, it is important to choose the right one so that it is suitable for other household appliances: a washing machine or a refrigerator.

Most often, a single-phase network is stretched in multi-storey buildings and private sectors, rarely a three-phase network. Find out which one you have in order to accurately select the regulator. You should also calculate the total power of the equipment that will be connected through the device (in this case, the dishwasher). How to do it:

  1. Find the technical specifications of the PMM model in the documents. Find out the power consumption.
  2. Sum up the power of the dishwasher and other connected appliances.
  3. Add 20 percent. It turns out the minimum power of the stabilizer.

It is important to choose a stabilizing device with a voltage margin. If you decide to replace your appliances, the regulator should not be pushed to its limit.

The dishwasher system can alert you to power outages. In Bosch models, the display shows error E27, which indicates insufficient or high voltage in the network.

What to look for when choosing

First of all, look at the technical specifications of the product.

Power. Pay special attention to this indicator. Many manufacturers, especially foreign ones, indicate power not in kW (kilowatts), but in kVA (kilovolt-amperes). The seller may not know this or keep silent, as a result you will buy a stabilizer that is not suitable for your network. 1 kVA equals 0,7 kW, so be careful.

Error. It indicates how much the output current can differ from the norm of 220V. In most cases, the accuracy ranges from 5 to 8%. Of course, it is desirable to choose products with a minimum error of 2%.

Type of adjustment. It is smooth and gradual. The latter option is not desirable for your network, since the adjustment occurs in jumps. For example, if a step of 10 V is indicated, then the voltage can jump sharply to these 10 V. Smooth adjustment occurs gradually, which has a positive effect on household appliances.

Working temperature. If you are going to install the device on the street or in the basement, you need to organize its protection from low temperatures. Its drops cause condensation, which negatively affects the internal components. The lowest temperature that regulators are ready to withstand is -10 – -15 degrees.

Overview of stabilizers for PMM

In a wide range of regulators, it is difficult to determine what is suitable and what is not. Therefore, we have prepared a review with brief characteristics.

Rucelf SRW II-12000-L

Relay type model, which can be conveniently placed on the wall. Designed for a load of 10-12 kW. Installation is allowed both at home and at the enterprise. Rucelf works with an input voltage of 140-260 Volts, it produces 280 V at the output with an error of ± 1,5%.

SRW II-12000-L will protect your equipment from short circuits, power surges and overloads. Smooth adjustment is allowed. Dimensions 300x450x170 mm.

The cost is from 15 rubles.

Suntek SK2 RL11000

A relay stabilizer is enough for several devices with a total power of 4 to 5 kW. Model SK2 RL11000 will respond to changes in the network in just 10 ms. Designed for voltage 120-285 V. Output error – 8%. Perfectly functions at a temperature of -30 – +40 degrees. The dimensions of the model are 38x25x15 cm.

The additional Baypass function allows you to turn off the Suntek without opening the circuit. This helps to extend the service life. The case is installed on a stand or hung on the wall.
