Often, when getting acquainted with the technical documentation for the dishwasher, buyers come across a mysterious capacity parameter, which is measured in sets of dishes. The label clearly states how many sets the appliance accepts, and not all manufacturers and sales consultants explain what a “set of dishes” for a dishwasher means. We will tell you how many items are included in the kit, what kind of dishes it is and how it is related to the volume of PMM.
Our ideological inspirers – readers of articles and instructions – asked a lot of questions about this, so it’s worth understanding in detail what a kit is in the understanding of manufacturers.
Set of dishes – how many appliances
What does a set of dishes mean in the understanding of dishwasher manufacturers? Usually it includes those cutlery and utensils that one person needs for a full meal. How many appliances are these? 3, 5 or more? Let’s figure it out:
- deep soup bowl
- a large flat plate for the second course;
- salad bowl;
- saucer;
- cup for coffee or tea (glass);
- one spoon and one fork.
Now it becomes clear that under the mysterious concept of “set of dishes” there are 6 cutlery items. Cooking utensils: oversized pots, ladles, frying pans or baking sheets are not taken into account when calculating the volume of the dishwasher.
The listed appliances may change or vary – each manufacturer understands the definition of a “set of dishes” in its own way. Many manufacturers of PMM, when talking about a deep soup plate, mean flatter options than those that our consumers are used to (example in the photo).
Flat deep plates are much more compact placed on the shelves of the dishwasher. If you have too convex soup plates, then with the declared capacity, for example, in 13 sets, only 9-10 can fit.
Attention! Dishes do not mean special plates, such as those for the microwave, but ordinary ones that are used daily.
PMM capacity
The concept of “set” exists to make it easier to determine the capacity of each individual dishwasher. Although these parameters are approximate due to differences in the size and design of the cookware, it is worth considering them when buying.
Which dishwasher to take, you ask. It all depends on the needs:
- The compact machine will hold 4-8 sets. The category of compact PMM on the market is represented by models designed for 6 sets. This means that a modest-sized pot or pan can be placed on the shelves of the dishwasher if the number of dishes is reduced. Oven trays do not fit in small PMM.
- Narrow floor model, 45 cm wide, can accommodate 9-12 sets. There are models that can accommodate up to 13 and even 14 sets – usually these are Premium class cars.
- The full-sized model will hold and wash 15-17 sets in one wash cycle.
PMM selection
When choosing a dishwasher, evaluate not only its capacity according to the passport, but also the real possibilities of technology. Match the dishes that you use in everyday life with those that the manufacturer says. As a rule, small families of 2-3 people have enough machine power for 5-6 sets. Among these models are especially successful:
- Freestanding machine Candy CDCF 6.
- The development of the German concern Bosch is a partially built-in Bosch SKE 52M55 model.
- Siemens SK 76M544 is another convenient model with the possibility of partial embedding.
To meet the needs of families of 4-5 people, a model with a volume of up to 8 sets, and preferably 9-10 sets, is suitable. These are the models:
- Bosch SPV 53M00 with the possibility of full embedding.
- Bosch SPV 58M50 is a similar model, designed for one more set of dishes.
- Hansa ZIM 428 EH is a fully integrated dishwasher.
- AEG F 65402 VI is a machine that is fully integrated into the headset, capable of washing up to 12 sets.
Models for large families (designed for volumes from 12 to 16-17 sets):
- Bosch SMS 40D02 – stand-alone model (12);
- Siemens SN 26M285 – non-embedded machine (14);
- Siemens SN 55M540 – machine with the possibility of partial embedding (13);
- Hansa ZWM 646 IEH, not integrated (13);
- Asko D 5554 XXL FI – fully built-in, capacity – 17 sets.
When choosing this technique, the question of economy, design or additional functions is often not important. Capacity is the criterion that buyers pay attention to in the first place. The best option is a large narrow machine (45 cm deep) with the possibility of half loading.
It is worth being prepared for the fact that the actual capacity from the declared one may differ – and not in a big way. As we found out, it depends on the difference in understanding what a standard set of dishes consists of. When deciding how many sets to take the PMM, decide on your needs and needs, correlate your dishes with the one by which the PMM capacity is calculated.
