Dishwasher not drying dishes – what to do

The washing program has ended, you are about to take out the dishes, but you see that they are wet? Why won’t the dishwasher dry the cutlery? If drying is present in your model, but at some point it ceases to perform its functions, you need to stop work and establish the cause of the problem. We will understand the problem in more detail, perhaps your intervention is not needed.

Reasons why PMM stopped drying dishes

Depending on the dishwasher model (Bosch, Electrolux), the following types of drying are distinguished:

  • condensation (natural);
  • turbo dryer;
  • heat exchange.

Why does the technique dry poorly? If your machine has a built-in condenser dryer, then drips and drops of water at the outlet are normal. It’s all about the specifics of the job. After the end of the program, the dishes are treated with hot water, the chamber door is slightly opened. The mixing of hot and cold streams dries wet dishes. But if you do not immediately get the instruments out of the hopper, condensation will form.

Flowing down on the surface of the devices, the condensate leaves stains. Therefore, before serving, the dishes must be wiped.

Another thing is when the kitchen utensils are not only wet, but also dirty. This may indicate a breakdown of one of the dishwasher components.

  1. Heater failure. If the water is not heated, then the dishes are washed poorly, and the moisture does not evaporate. Turbo dryer models blow cold air instead of hot air.
  2. The thermostat is broken.
  3. Malfunction of the electronic module. Then the PMM simply does not proceed to the drying cycle.
  4. The fan has failed.

How to fix the problem

If a Bosch or other brand dishwasher does not dry out, you need to check all the parts that could cause the malfunction.

Heater and temperature sensor

When the control board gives a signal for heating, the heating element turns on. It brings the water to the desired temperature, which is determined by the temperature sensor. Once the temperature is reached, the thermistor sends a signal to the module and it stops heating.

If the machine does not heat the water, the heating element is checked first. In most dishwashers, it is flow-through, it is part of the circulation unit. Replace it with your own hands:

  • Disconnect the machine from the network and communications.
  • Open the door and remove all baskets from the hopper.
  • Turn the PMM over to the back wall.
  • Remove the bottom pan (if any).
  • In the assembly you will see the heater. It looks like this:
  • Check out his wiring. If burnt elements are visible, they must be replaced.
  • The heating element is checked with a multimeter. To do this, attach the probes to the heater contacts. Indicators from 10 to 30 ohms indicate the health of the element.
  • In the event of a breakdown, disconnect the wiring chips.
  • Loosen the fixing screw.
  • Install a new heater.

Important! When choosing a heating element, compare the marking with the old part.

If the temperature sensor malfunctions, the operation of the PMM may stop at the washing stage. The part is located in the water collection chamber. To replace, you need to disconnect the wiring and install a new thermistor.

Fan and control module

In dishwashers with a turbo dryer, a fan supplies heated air to the chamber. The element is located in different parts of the dishwasher: at the side, top or bottom wall. In the event of a malfunction, you will not hear the noise that sounds during drying. To replace it, you will have to almost completely disassemble the case.

The control board contains triacs that control the operation of the nodes. With a power surge, the triac of the heating element could burn out. It is better to entrust the replacement to the master, you will need to work with a soldering iron. If the module itself malfunctions, installing a new element will help. But such repairs will be expensive.

If you are not sure of your abilities, it is better to consult a specialist. Some users ask the question: do I need to dry the dishwasher after washing. A must if you want to avoid unpleasant odors. How to get rid of dishwasher odor, read the article.
