Dishwasher malfunctions Indesit: do-it-yourself repair

Dishwashers from Indesit are affordable household appliances. The price of dishwashers of this brand is much lower than that of other brands. Therefore, they are in demand among consumers.

Malfunctions may appear a year or two after the purchase of the Indesit dishwasher. Electronics are very sensitive to power surges, which leads to burnout of contacts and control boards. We will analyze the main causes of breakdowns and options for their elimination.

Indesit PMM error codes are collected and described in detail in a separate article.

The main causes of breakdowns of the Indesit dishwasher

The time of failure cannot be predicted, but the cause must be determined. After years of operation in the dishwasher, any of the nodes can “surrender”. How to identify the problem? See recommendations:

  1. Pay attention to the symptoms of a breakdown. Is the machine malfunctioning or won’t turn on? All this points to the cause of the malfunction.
  2. Look at the display. Often the self-diagnosis system gives an error in the form of a code. Decoding the code will indicate a breakdown.

What malfunctions are typical for Indesit dishwashers:

  • The failure of the heating element leads to the fact that the quality of washing dishes is reduced. The machine does not heat water. It is necessary to check the heater, its wiring. The electronic module, triacs for controlling the heating element are also inspected.
  • Extraneous noise during operation may indicate wear on the motor bearing. This happens when the oil seal becomes unusable, the grease is washed out and the bearing begins to creak. It is necessary to completely disassemble the pump and replace the bearings. Also, noise occurs when glass enters the pump impeller.
  • A typical malfunction is that the machine does not take on water. The problem lies in the filling system. Everything needs to be checked, cleaned, replaced.
  • When the dishwasher leaks, the cause may be the door seal. It could be worn out or damaged, then a replacement is needed. Often the tank of the Indesit dishwasher itself leaks. Here you will need knowledge on how to disassemble the equipment and replace the tank.
  • Why does the Indesit dishwasher squeak during operation? The problem may be in the control module. You will need to diagnose and replace the part.
  • If the water drain does not work, the drain pump, filter and hose must be checked.

Let’s move on to finding faulty parts and repairing them.

How to repair a dishwasher with your own hands

Repair of the dishwasher “Indesit” can be done independently. For everything to go well, follow our recommendations.

Replacing the heating element

The heater often suffers from scale and power surges. Due to poor-quality water with a high salt content, plaque settles on the heating element. Over time, the scale layer becomes larger, which leads to overheating and combustion of the heating element. In addition, more energy is spent on heating water.

Instructions for replacing the heater:

  • Unplug the dishwasher. Shut off the water supply.
  • Lay the car on its side.
  • Open the bottom cover. In the Indesit dishwasher, the heating element is connected to the pump.
  • Before removing the heater, check it for serviceability. Disconnect the heating element wiring, attach the multimeter probes to the contacts. If a part is defective, it must be replaced.
  • Release the heater clamps and disconnect it.
  • Disconnect the clamp and remove the hose from the pump to the water tank.
  • Disconnect pump wiring.
  • Pull the pump and heater out of the housing.
  • Turning clockwise, disconnect the heating element.

To install a new element, remove the seal from the pump and replace it. To make the heater easy to put on, lubricate its edges and seal with grease.

The heating element is installed in the reverse order, the removed clamps are replaced with new ones.

Cleaning and replacing the drain pump

If waste water is not flushed out after washing, check the drain system. How to do it:

  1. Open the machine door, pull out the trays and shelves for dishes.
  2. Pull out the filter at the bottom and the metal mesh (if any). Rinse the parts under running water.
  3. If water has accumulated at the filter installation site, remove it with a sponge.
  4. Push and pull the pump cover.
  5. Inspect the impeller for blockage, clean it.

To check if the pump is working, get to it through the bottom of the machine.

Disconnect the pump wiring and check the contacts with a multimeter. Replace if damaged. To remove the pump from the circulation pump, turn it clockwise.

Replacing the seal on the door

A leak in the Indesit dishwasher is formed due to a worn seal on the door. It is easy to replace it with your own hands:

  • open the bunker door;
  • disconnect the seal around the perimeter of the machine;
  • take a new gasket, insert it in place of the old one, distributing it around the perimeter;
  • remove excess sealant with a knife.

Carry out test work to check the seal in action.

To replace the lower door seal, proceed as follows:

  • open the bunker door;
  • unscrew the screws around the perimeter of the inner panel of the door;
  • lift the door up, pull the outer panel of the door down and remove;
  • open the door again and take the basket out of the bin;
  • below you will see part of the seal;
  • pull out the seal by pulling the edges with tweezers;
  • on the new product you will see a mark on the right side – this means that the right side of the seal should be installed from the right inward;
  • fill the seal and assemble the door.

Problems with the control board

The control module is a complex and expensive part. Each triac on the module is responsible for the operation of certain parts of the dishwasher. It is better to entrust the repair of the module to the master.

But if you want to inspect it and find a fault, here is a guide:

  • remove the door front panel as described above;
  • unscrew the bolts that hold the control panel;
  • put the panel on top of the case;
  • to disconnect the module, unplug the black wire;
  • unscrew the screws holding the module on the panel;
  • disconnect wiring; Before repairing, it is better to take a picture of the location of the connectors.

You can inspect the details. Installing a new module is carried out in the reverse order.

Checking the filling system

A long set of water in the machine indicates a blockage in the system. How to troubleshoot:

  1. Turn off the water supply.
  2. Unscrew the inlet hose from the PMM body.
  3. Disconnect the other end of the hose from the communications.
  4. Examine it and rinse it under running water.
  5. Pull out the strainer. It is installed at the inlet to the intake valve.
  6. Clean it of debris.

The intake valve is also checked.

If there is no blockage, ring the electronic parts with a multimeter. If damaged, the valve must be completely replaced.

A common reason why the quality of washing dishes is reduced is a clogged dispenser tray. If you do not clean the compartments of detergent and powder, plaque will turn to stone on the walls. It is difficult to remove it later, so wipe the tray with a rag after each wash.

Also check the rocker nozzles for clogging:

  • remove the upper blade by unscrewing the fastener;
  • pull the bottom towards you;
  • clean small holes with a toothpick, rinse under running water.

Now you can start the Indesit dishwasher and check the health of all elements.

Monitor the condition of your equipment, do not neglect the first symptoms of a breakdown. It is much easier to fix the problem immediately than to carry out a full repair later.
