Dishwasher fills with water and immediately drains

You decided to wash the dishes, loaded the appliances, but instead of starting the cycle, the dishwasher fills and drains water? What is the reason? Such a malfunction may indicate a leak inside the system. Additionally, an error code may appear on the display.

Do not rush to call the master and pay for repairs. In the article you will learn what is the reason and how to fix the breakdown with your own hands.

Why is the drain constantly running?

Water enters the dishwasher hopper through the inlet valve. Sprinklers evenly pour water over the dishes, washing away food residues and dirt. Waste water flows into the sump, where it is filtered and enters the drain. But what if the water, not having time to collect, immediately merges? First, pay attention to the signs of damage:

  • a fault code appears on the display;
  • the control panel does not respond to your actions (indicators do not light up, pressing the keys does not lead to a result);
  • after restarting the system, the problem did not disappear;
  • the machine constantly fills and immediately drains the water;
  • noise and hum is heard during pump operation.

What could have caused the crash:

  1. Leak protection system failure.
  2. Intake valve defect.
  3. A hole in the body, depressurization of hose and pipe connections.
  4. Worn drain pump gaskets.

Also worth checking out:

  1. Correct connection. See how firmly the hoses are connected, if there is a leak.
  2. Closing tightness of the hopper door. To avoid an accident, the water will constantly drain if there is even a small gap. Press the door tighter.

Such a problem is not uncommon for Bosch, Electrolux, Ikea dishwashers. Therefore, it is important to know how to eliminate it with your own hands.

Let’s consider each problem separately.

Leak protection failure

The Aquastop system is installed in most modern PMMs. It protects the user from an emergency situation that may occur when water leaks. So when water enters the sump, the foam float rises and pushes against the switch. The latter sends a signal to the electronic module, which sends a signal to the drain pump. Water pumping starts.

Problems with Aquastop confirms in case of malfunction E15 on display.

A false cause of operation could be the scale that formed on the float.

To correct the situation, you need to drain the water from the pan. In some models (Ariston, Bosch, Indesit), the float sensor is located on the side wall, and water may also remain in it. To remove, tilt the machine 45 degrees:

  • disconnect equipment from power and communications;
  • push to a free space;
  • prepare a container. By tilting the PMM, drain the remaining water from the pan.

If your car has a mechanical Aquastop system, you need to install a new hose. Then the problem will be solved. If the protection is electronic, do this:

  • after turning off, turn the case over to the back wall;
  • remove the bottom cover (if any), it is held on by bolts or latches;
  • a leakage sensor is fixed on the inside of the cover;
  • disconnect its wiring and unscrew the screw;
  • install the new part in reverse order.

Are you sure it’s a leak? Then you need to eliminate its cause. Inspect the dishwasher tank for damage. Sometimes you have to completely dismantle the equipmentto find the problem.

Problems with the inlet valve and pressure switch

The operation of the supply valve is linked to the level sensor. The pressure switch sends information to the board about the amount of water in the hopper. If it gives incorrect readings, then when turned on, the system will draw and drain water.

Start checking with the valve:

  • close the shut-off valve;
  • if the pump does not stop buzzing, remove the plug from the socket;
  • disconnect the water intake hose from the PMM;
  • take out the flow filter;
  • check the electronic component of the valve with a multimeter – connect its probes to the contacts; 500-1500 ohms are considered normal;
  • inspect the valve for blockage.

The part cannot be repaired, so in case of breakage, replace it with an original spare part.

The pressure switch can be located under the bottom of the model. The element is a reservoir to which pressure pipes are connected. You can verify that the sensor is working with a multimeter or blow into the tube. Do you hear clicks? So the item is fine. No, it’s being replaced.

Incorrect operation of the electronic board

Most often, the drain-set problem occurs due to a faulty triac on the board. Each element of the module is responsible for the operation of different units and parts. Therefore, if one of them burns out, the pump can work continuously until the equipment is disconnected from the network. Causes of problems with the board:

  1. Short circuit or power surge. Have you connected a dishwasher without a stabilizer? This is fraught with disruption of the electronic part.
  2. Moisture ingress. This can happen during shipping when water gets on the module.

The triac can be soldered, but a specialist should do such work. You will only be able to inspect the module:

  • fully open the PMM door;
  • loosen its skin by unscrewing the bolts around the perimeter;
  • lift the door and remove the control panel;
  • there is a module under the panel;
  • disconnect the black wire leading to the sensor;
  • unscrew the module bolts and connectors;
  • do an inspection.

Pump seal wear

This is not the main cause of the problems, but if you have ruled out all the others, then it remains to check the circulation pump. Thanks to the engine, water is constantly supplied to the sprinklers, which contributes to washing dishes. Unfortunately, when worn, it is impossible to replace only the oil seal. Individual elements are not supplied, and the pump (in most models) is not collapsible.

How to make a DIY replacement:

  • open access to the bottom of the PMM;
  • disconnect wiring;
  • using pliers, open the clamp that connects the pipe to the pump;
  • disconnect the pipe and drain hose;
  • unscrew the fastening screws;
  • remove the part from the housing and install a new one.

Also carefully inspect the pipes for integrity. If the material is leaky, has lost its tightness, it is better to install new nozzles.

The cause of the leak may be a damaged PMM tank. In this case, water will constantly overflow in the pan. If you are unable to find the problem, call the wizard.
