Dishwasher cabinet – do-it-yourself selection and installation

How to choose a cabinet for a dishwasher? Few people think about it in advance, even before installing the kitchen set. If you have a finished kitchen and need to install a new dishwasher in it, then in this article you will find some tips. Let’s choose a convenient place for equipment together.

Accommodation features

The width of the dishwasher body can be 45-60 cm. These are narrow and full-size models with a capacity of 10-15 sets. There are also compact PMM, which can wash from 4 to 6 sets of dishes in one cycle.

To integrate appliances into a standard kitchen (like Ikea), you can choose the following options:

  • Install the appliance in a niche under the sink.
  • Install the equipment in the cabinet reserved for cereals and pots.
  • Place the PMM in a hanging pedestal.

You can arrange a dishwasher under the sink. For this, a compact model with a width of 45 cm and a height of 50-60 cm is suitable. Think in advance whether the capacity of the dishwasher is enough. You can load the machine several times a day, but then you will not be able to use resources profitably.

An ordinary siphon under the sink “will not allow” the installation of appliances. We recommend installing a compact siphon, the tube of which goes first to the side and then down.

For the built-in PMM, the option with a cabinet is suitable. You can simply pull out one of the headset items, and install a typewriter in its place. But since we are talking about embedding in a headset, the contents of the cabinet can be redone, making room for technology.

What cabinet do you need? Make sure that the width and height of the niche is 5-10 cm larger than the dishwasher body. This is necessary for normal ventilation.

Some users decide to install a PMM in a hanging cabinet. This is possible if there is no other option. This solution has more disadvantages than advantages:

  • Fastening furniture to the wall must be strong and reliable in order to withstand the load.
  • Communications to the water supply will look unaesthetic on the wall.
  • Loading dishes will be inconvenient.

Choosing a cabinet for PMM

First of all, you need to consider the location of the outlet where you connect the PMM. The cabinet should be close to the network. We wrote more about this in the publication “Dishwasher outlet“. Let’s recap the important points:

  • The outlet with a moisture-resistant housing should be located at a height of 45 cm from the floor.
  • Grounding is provided.
  • The connection is made via difavtomat.

Not prepared wiring and a separate outlet? Then it is better to start with the organization of electrical communications. And:

  • It is advisable to choose a cabinet near the sink. The length of the hose when connected should not exceed 1,5 m – this is an additional load on the drain pump.
  • The prepared niche should be at least 5 cm larger than the dishwasher.

Prepare a place for a built-in machine.

How to make a dishwasher cabinet

You have already chosen the installation site, it remains to organize everything so that the appliances fit into the cabinet or under the countertop. If you decide to install a freestanding machine, it is easier to dismantle one cabinet from the headset, and put a PMM in its place.

If you have chosen the built-in technique, you need to redo the niche:

  • Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws that secure the cabinet to the countertop.
  • Remove the fasteners connecting the dishwasher to the adjacent ones.
  • Move the cabinet to an empty space.
  • Take out the inner shelves, dismantle the back and top panels. The side walls and front part should remain.
  • Do the same for the front and rear plinth. Only the side elements should remain.
  • Prepare holes in the side panel for the outlet of the hoses. Do this from the side where the sink is located so that the connection is simple and convenient.
  • It remains to install the walls and the plinth and fasten them with ties.

Tip: to prevent the wooden countertop from being damaged by steam from the dishwasher, attach a metal sheet to the inside. It usually comes with built-in machines.

The preparatory work has been completed. We proceed to the connection stage.

How to install a dishwasher

It remains to put the PMM in place and connect it to the water supply and plum. If the dishwasher legs were adjusted before delivery, then lower them. Slide the body into the prepared area. Twist the legs in height. Use the fasteners that come with the kit to further secure the machine and immobilize it during operation.

Then:

  • Connect the drain and fill hose to the housing.
  • Pass them through the holes you made.
  • Connect the drain hose to the siphon.
  • Connect the intake hose to the water supply. Seal all connections with fum-tape and clamps.
  • Connect the plug to the socket and make a test run.

Conclusion: you can install a dishwasher in the kitchen with your own hands in a few hours. During the first start, see how the water is poured and drained, whether the equipment is firmly fixed. Watch related videos:
