Diseases of housewives: how to treat, how to determine, symptoms

Have you been taking care of your health for a long time? Maybe it’s time to run to the doctor?

Obstetrician-gynecologist and gynecologist-endocrinologist Angelina Sobolevskaya and psychotherapist Maxim Pasyukov talked about the most common diseases and even pathologies faced by modern home keepers. However, it’s too early to panic. Each problem must have its own solution.

Problem: Lifting weights leads to prolapse of the uterus and internal organs

After giving birth, almost every woman has a hyperextension of the ligaments and muscles of the pelvic floor. The recovery period is different for everyone. To avoid prolapse, after childbirth, it is important to exclude heavy physical exertion on the abdominal muscles for several months and not to lift weights. At this time, you need to try as often as possible to strain the muscles of the thighs, pelvic floor (Kegel gymnastics), and even better, if possible, ride a bike, visit the pool. Walking stairs is also helpful.

Problem: working in the cold can lead to the development of various female diseases, kidney disease

Hypothermia, first of all, can lead to a decrease in immunity and exacerbation of chronic, “dormant” infections, and then to everything else. Therefore, try to protect yourself from prolonged exposure to frost and contact with cold water.

Problem: due to constant contact with household chemicals, housewives suffer from asthma, eczema, chemical burns

Striving for super cleanliness, regular contact with cleaning chemicals and powders can provoke the development of contact dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and cough. To avoid this, use gloves and masks, and, if possible, leave the area during processing, where strong smelling and volatile products are used.

Problem: Staying near a hot stove and oven for a long time can cause burns

Often, in the whirlwind of household chores, housewives simply forget about safety rules. As a result, various thermal burns are likely. To avoid this, do not grasp hot baking trays, pans and other utensils with your bare hands (some check how hot the dish is). Use towels, oven mitts, and special probes. When opening the oven, take care of your face: it can be scalded by hot steam.

Problem: due to the constant picking up of children and frequent ironing, the thumb is overloaded, which threatens with inflammation of the tendons

This pathology is even called housewives’ disease. The thumb is the most active finger of the hand. Often we perform movements that overload the finger, leading to tendon inflammation. In medicine, this ailment is called “de Quervain’s disease.” During it, the narrowing of the canal occurs, in which the tendons of the thumb pass. Usually, the disease develops gradually, so it can be prevented.

Problem: Hand washing and dishwashing leads to dermatitis

Worst of all, at the beginning of the disease, we do not fully realize its danger and continue to wash, wash and scrub. All this only aggravates the painful process. In the end, irritated skin reacts to regular toilet soap and chlorinated water. However, it is a mistake to think that as soon as we stop contacting detergents, dermatitis will go away on its own. Sometimes the cause of the disease can go much deeper and, for example, indicate insufficient function of the skin itself, malfunction of the stomach, intestines, gall bladder or kidneys. The “culprit” of dermatitis may be the immune system, so at the first suspicion, seek medical advice.

Problem: feeling that you are not appreciated, burnout syndrome, lack of fulfillment, dependent position, isolation from the active social environment

Women who are busy with household chores sometimes stop taking care of themselves. “I’m sitting at home anyway. Why should I dress up and put on makeup – no one sees me! ”; quite often they feel unclaimed and unnecessary, and then they gradually cease to like themselves, then others, and then their own husband. So, step by step, they move towards psychosomatic illnesses. First, something goes wrong in the soul, then breakdowns in the body join, including hypertension, obesity, arthrosis, osteochondrosis, irregularities in the cycle, inability to get pregnant (functional infertility) or carry a child, stomach and duodenal ulcer, neurodermatitis, allergies, atopic dermatitis, eczema, bronchial asthma, thyrotoxicosis, type 12 diabetes mellitus, irritable bowel syndrome, and much, much more. In the most severe cases – cancer or trauma.

The second “way out” of the accumulated tension is going into neuroses, depression, phobias and other psychological decompensations. If you feel that you can no longer cope with emotions and depression, make an appointment with a therapist. Just don’t confuse him with a psychiatrist! A psychiatrist treats with medicines, and a psychotherapist – with a word. When people ask me if it is possible to be happy being a housewife, I answer: “Yes! But, like any other happiness, this happiness requires attention, care and work on oneself. “
