An ominous buzz, a moment of inattention, a bite, followed by an itchy blister. We all know it. In the summer season, mosquitoes can effectively make our lives miserable. Despite taking all precautions, it is impossible to protect against them in 100%. However, there are some simple home remedies to alleviate the unpleasant consequences of mosquito bites.
It is well known that only female mosquitoes are a nuisance, males are happy with the nectar of flowers. Mosquitoes, biting into human skin, leave their saliva in it to prevent blood from clotting. This way they can eat at will. Saliva contains allergens that release histamine in our body. An allergic reaction is the appearance of a blister, redness and severe itching at the site of the bite. Such a trace may persist for several or even several days. What can you do to help yourself? Here are some practical tips:
Apply ice
The cold will cause the blood vessels to constrict, which will release less histamine. The itching should go away and the blister will shrink.
Use toothpaste
Smear it on the bite mark, and the mint contained in it will cool and soothe the itching. In addition, the paste has astringent properties, thanks to which it will reduce swelling.
Apply honey
A bit of honey applied to the area after a mosquito bite will have an anti-inflammatory effect and speed up the healing process.
Use lemon juice
This fruit contains citric acid, which will exfoliate the epidermis and regenerate and disinfect the skin, while reducing itching.
Try vinegar
It’s best when you have an apple on hand. Its acid reaction will reduce itching. Besides, vinegar is also a great mosquito repellent.
Use aspirin
Not in the traditional way, but for external use. The crushed tablet in combination with water, when applied to the blister, will provide relief thanks to the acetylsalicylic acid, which has an anti-inflammatory effect.
Use an essential oil
It can be tea tree or lavender oil. The first has an antibacterial effect, the second will minimize itching and irritation.
Add fresh basil
Rub its leaves in your hands and add to the bite mark. The camphor contained in them will have a cooling effect, eliminating itching. Basil, like vinegar, also repels mosquitoes.
Make a tea bag wrap
After brewing and cooling down, the bag is a great compress that extracts toxic compounds from the mosquito’s saliva, thanks to which we get rid of severe itching.
Use aloe vera
If you accidentally grow this plant, use the gel contained in its leaves, which reduces inflammation and reduces skin irritation.
Apply a white cabbage leaf
The health properties of this vegetable were already appreciated by our grandmothers. The compress will effectively soothe the area irritated by a mosquito bite.
Make a rose water compress
It contains sugar compounds, tannins, flavonoids, vitamins and mineral salts. All of them taken together will instantly reduce redness and swelling.
