Inflammation of the gums most often results from the accumulation of plaque and tartar. To prevent them, it is enough to visit the dentist regularly (once a year) and take care of oral hygiene: brushing your teeth and using dental floss. Sometimes, however, as a result of diseases, age, lack of vitamins and minerals, medications, stimulants or large amounts of sweets eaten, the gums begin to become inflamed despite proper hygiene. What to do in this situation?

  1. The first thing you should do when you notice that your gums are inflamed is to go to the dentist. Not only will he recommend further treatment, but he will also remove the tartar that was the cause of gum disease.
  2. We can also go to a periodontist who will remove the gingival calculus. Thanks to this, the inflammation will not develop and the existing one will decrease.
  3. The periodontologist may also suggest surgery that will help us avoid inflammation in the future. Inflammation often occurs when gums are exposed and teeth decay. This is often the case in older people, but also in people taking drugs such as amphetamines, who bite their teeth all day and wear them down, exposing the gums. However, periodontal pockets can be reconstructed and enlarged to help remove persistent symptoms.

If gum disease is the result of poor oral hygiene, this solution can only make things worse. When the gums hurt and swell, it is worth brushing your teeth more gently than usual, but still at least twice a day.

  7. When treating gingivitis, it is necessary to stop smoking after calculus removal. Unfortunately, cigarettes cause the accumulation of tartar and plaque on the teeth and thus can accelerate the next appearance of inflammation.
  8. In pharmacies, you can also buy antibacterial rinses and mouthwashes that reduce deposits on the teeth. They are especially recommended to people who suffer from gingivitis, because they are an easy way to take care of oral hygiene and reduce unpleasant symptoms.
  9. It is also good to invest in a healing gel designed specifically for gums. Such a gel should be rubbed into the affected areas several times a day and you can get it in almost every pharmacy.
  10. If you don’t have any medicine at hand and your gums are getting more and more sore and red, herbal teas that can be used to rinse your mouth will help to soothe the inflammation. Sage and chamomile have the strongest anti-inflammatory effect; Mint is also antiseptic. It is important that the teas are not too hot, because with sore gums, symptoms can worsen.
