Diosmin (Diosmunum) is a flavonoid that has a protective effect on the veins. It is a component of phlebotropic and phlebotonic drugs.

Diosmin – properties

The action of diosmin in the body is to improve blood circulation in the capillaries and reduce the tension of the vessel walls, which should significantly help in the fight against varicose veins. Diosmin also has anti-edema properties, thanks to which it not only reduces them, but also reduces the feeling of heaviness and fatigue in the legs, while increasing lymphatic drainage. It also reduces troublesome itching and night cramps.

Diosmin – application

Diosmin is used in the treatment of venous circulation insufficiency and in haemorrhoids (haemorrhoids), as well as in treatments related to venous circulation insufficiency of the lower extremities – both functional and structural and chronic symptomatic. It is applied when lymphedema and ailments caused by pressure ulcers appear. It is believed to reduce some of the complications of high blood sugar.

Clinical trials have shown that the best therapeutic effects are achieved by using micronized diosmin. It is a diosmin with significantly reduced molecules. Such a solution enables a much more effective absorption of the active substance. In this form, it is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract in approx. 70%. In the non-micronized state it is from 20% to 30%.

Diosmin – contraindications

A contraindication to the use of diosmin is allergy or hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug. In the case of pregnant women, diosmin may be used only under strict medical supervision. The drug should not be used during breastfeeding, as there is no reliable medical data on its penetration into breast milk.

Diosmin – side effects

Diosmin only causes side effects in rare cases. The patient may develop abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, as well as dry mucous membranes, facial swelling and skin rash.

Diosmin – dosage

It is assumed that the optimal daily dose of diosmin is 1000 mg. The daily dose depends primarily on the patient’s health. Based on its assessment, the doctor may recommend reducing or increasing it. Usually disomine capsules or tablets are between 300 g and 1000 g. You should take it either once or in two equal doses. Some preparations require the first dose in the morning and on an empty stomach, others are used during a meal, and others – just before it.

Diosmina – dinner

Since diosmin is a component of drugs, the price for it depends on the cost of the preparation in which it is found. Simple preparations containing diosmin include, among others, tablets such as Aflavic, Diosminex Max, Diosminal capsules, as well as complex preparations – Detralex, Daflon (diosmin + flavonoids), Cyclo4Dios (diosmin + flavonoids + butcher’s broom extract + ascaleorbic acid () diosmin + hesperidin).
