This action-packed story is read in one breath, but most importantly, it is written with some kind of cheerful energy. It seems that in this family saga, embodied in the form of an adventure novel, all the former Dina Rubina, all her stories, stories and even travel notes are synthesized. The action is rapidly transferred from Israel to Spain and Italy, from one time to another: here is the post-war Vinnitsa, and besieged Leningrad … And all this variety of people, times, countries, this whole kaleidoscope of events is surprisingly neatly and carefully organized, built. Everything turns out to be not accidental, and everything is essentially connected by the history of one kind, stretching from the time of El Greco to the present. Well, in the center of it is the artist and adventurer Zakhar Kordovin. He skillfully imitates the artists of the past, but not just copies their work — he writes new paintings “for them”. And each such “open”, previously unknown canvas of one of the greats immediately acquires a legend, acquires its own myth. And besides, Zakhar is charming, brave and in love. He breathes optimism. It is as if the daring spirit of a filibuster, an adventurer lives in it, it is not for nothing that the history of the Cordovin family is connected with pirates. And it’s hard to say what is more attractive in this book: plot exoticism, wonderfully expressive descriptions of different cities and countries, or colorful scenes that resurrect speech and life, family dramas and the home life of people who lived recently, went through revolutions, repressions and wars.
