Digoxin – digoxin, a drug in the form of tablets that reduces the heart rate while increasing the strength of contractions of the heart muscle.

The drug is prescribed by a doctor in specific cases, such as arrhythmias, ventricular fibrillation, acute heart failure. digoxin should be taken strictly as prescribed by your doctor, at defined, regular times. The dosage is determined depending on the patient’s condition, blood pressure indications, and the results of specialized tests. Poisoning of the body can occur if digoxin is used incorrectly.

Indications for use of the drug Digoxin

Atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular beats, advanced heart failure. During treatment, your doctor should perform regular liver and kidney function tests and monitor the ECG.

Contraindications

Allergy (hypersensitivity) to the active substance (digoxin) or any of the other ingredients place on Digoxin and other cardiac glycosides. Contraindications are also: arrhythmia, ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. Particular caution when using digoxin should be kept if you have low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood, high levels of calcium in the blood, heart problems due to vitamin B1 deficiency (beriberi disease), or if you have kidney, lung, thyroid problems or digestion. Any contraindications are contained in the package leaflet.

Lek Digoxin Teva may be used during pregnancy only in cases when, in the opinion of the doctor, the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Digoxin passes into breast milk in low concentrations. Caution is required when using the drug in breastfeeding women.

Possible side effects of using Digoxin

Nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, anorexia, dizziness and headache, fainting, weakness, insomnia, visual disturbances (blurred vision or yellow or green vision), mental disorders, hallucinations, delirium, depression, convulsions, potassium and calcium disturbances in the body. Less commonly, allergic skin lesions, erosions of the gastric mucosa, disorders of the central nervous system (especially in children).
