For children aged 1 year and older or for those who adhere to the principles of healthy eating, steamed diet meatballs are a great way to diversify their diet. If you use poultry meat for their preparation, a portion of meatballs for lunch can fill the daily need for proteins.

How to steam meatballs

You can use tender white poultry meat – chicken or turkey – to make this dietary meal for a child, or to diversify a healthy diet. For 2 servings you will need: – 300 g of chicken or turkey fillet; – ½ onion; – ½ carrots; – ¼ glass of rice; – fresh herbs; – 1 clove of garlic; – 1 tomato; – 50 g of soy sauce. Wash the meat, dry with a paper kitchen towel or napkin, cut into small pieces and mince with onions, garlic and carrots. Add soy sauce and knead the minced meat well, cover it with a plate or wrap it in a plastic bag, refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Pour rice into a saucepan, cover with 2 cups of water, place on the stove and bring to a boil. After the water boils, reduce the heat to a minimum and simmer the rice for another 15 minutes, you do not need to stir it. Throw the boiled rice in a colander, rinse with cold water and put in the minced meat. Chop fresh herbs finely and place in the meat. You can add dry spicy herbs, ground black pepper to the minced meat.

You can also make such meatballs from fish. In this case, the cooking time in a double boiler should be reduced to 20 minutes.

Put the tomato in a cup, pour boiling water over it, hold for 1-2 minutes and remove the skin from it. Cut it into small pieces, put in a saucepan, add 50 g of water and simmer a little over low heat, 10-15 minutes will be enough. Salt the sauce, add finely chopped herbs, a little salt or soy sauce, chopped garlic. Cool it down.

Form the meatballs, place them on the steamer pan, pour water into it and cook for 25-30 minutes. If you do not have a steamer, you can steam diet meals without it. Tie a piece of cheesecloth around the pan, making sure the fabric hangs slightly. You can also use a handleless colander by placing it in a wide saucepan. Pour water into it, throw in the bay leaf, close the lid and cook the meatballs for a couple of half an hour.

How to serve meatballs for steam

Serve the meatballs with tomato sauce. Boil rice or buckwheat for steamed meatballs, you can cook potatoes for garnish. You can make a vegetable garnish for them from baked tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplants. Wash the vegetables, wipe them with a napkin, pierce each in several places with a fork, wrap in foil and place on the wire rack in the oven. Bake for 35-40 minutes. Then remove the vegetables, refrigerate, peel and finely chop. Add chopped garlic and chopped herbs, a little olive oil, and season with salt.
