Diet for kidney stones: video
Kidney stones can result from infection or metabolic disorders. They can be of different shapes and reach gigantic sizes, preventing the normal outflow of urine. The basis of treatment is not only drugs, but also a special diet.
Kidney stone disease occurs due to the formation of excessive amounts of salts in the urine. Accumulating in the kidneys, they crystallize and turn first into sand, and then into dense calculi (stones). Stones can differ not only in shape and size, but also in chemical composition.
For the time being, nephrolithiasis is asymptomatic. Concrements are found either by accident during a routine examination, or when they enter the ureter, disrupt the outflow of urine and cause a serious attack of renal colic. The choice of diet depends not so much on the stage of the disease as on the structure of the stones.
To determine the chemical composition of salts and stones, you can use urine analysis or study the structure of the stone itself. It is better to be examined by a urologist or nephrologist
Oxalate stones are formed due to an excess of calcium salts of oxalic acid in the body.
To prevent the occurrence of calculi or restrain their growth, it is necessary to exclude the following foods from the diet:
- spinach
- sorrel
- parsley and dill greens
- tomatoes
- beets
- radish
- coffee
- chocolate and cocoa
- pulse
- citrus
- Antonov apples
- garden and forest berries (currants, strawberries, gooseberries, etc.)
Without restrictions, you can eat lean meat, fish and poultry, vegetables and fruits with the exception of those listed, vegetable and butter, cereals, dried fruits and honey.
In the presence of kidney stones (regardless of their composition), you must drink at least two liters of fluid per day. In addition, salty, spicy and smoked foods, as well as alcoholic and carbonated drinks should be excluded from the diet.
Nutrition for uric acid stones
With urate stones, the following products are prohibited:
- meat of young animals

The daily diet should contain dairy products, bread, vegetarian vegetable soups, cereals, sweet fruits, eggs, cucumbers and carrots. Three times a week, it is allowed to eat lean boiled meat and fish, steamed cutlets and salads from fresh and pickled vegetables, seasoned with vegetable oil.
If you have kidney stones, you will have to diet for life. Otherwise, the likelihood of a relapse of the disease is high, even when calculi are surgically removed.
