Diet for chronic intestinal colitis, colitis with constipation

Treating colitis, an inflammatory disease of the colon, is not just medication. A special diet for intestinal colitis will help to normalize the work of the gastrointestinal tract, so it is worth figuring out which foods can and cannot be used for this disease.

Diet for intestinal colitis allows you to normalize its work

The diet for colitis is selected taking into account the course of the disease – acute or chronic stage, the reasons for its occurrence, the presence of diarrhea or constipation and some other factors. The diet is aimed at improving the functioning of the intestines, therefore, products that promote recovery or at least do not irritate the intestinal mucosa are allowed for use.

In case of acute colitis, it is recommended to give up food for a couple of days and limit yourself to the use of liquid, which must be drunk 150-200 milliliters 5-7 times a day. Better if it is warm tea or a decoction of rose hips.

After that, when the body gets a little stronger, you need to start adhering to a sparing diet. You need to eat in small portions 5-6 times a day. Food should not be too hot or cold. Meat, fish, and most vegetables should be steamed, boiled, or baked. Water should be drunk in small portions.

Depending on whether colitis is accompanied by constipation or diarrhea, the menu consists of laxative or, conversely, fortifying foods.

A diet for bowel colitis with constipation includes the use of such dishes and products:

  • soups and pureed soups on vegetable or weak beef, chicken broth;
  • barley, buckwheat and millet porridge;
  • meat and fish;
  • raw cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots;
  • cooked vegetables: courgettes, carrots, cauliflower, pumpkin, beets;
  • dill, parsley, lettuce, celery;
  • juices and compotes;
  • berries and fruits, especially apples without peels;
  • dried fruits;
  • fermented milk products;
  • sunflower and butter;
  • honey,
  • Sahara;
  • coarse bread;
  • coffee and tea with milk.

And the following products are contraindicated for colitis accompanied by constipation:

  • white bread, loaf and baked goods;
  • fatty meat, smoked or fried meat and fish products;
  • strong meat broth or ear;
  • radish, daikon, radish;
  • hot and sour sauces and condiments;
  • strong black tea and coffee;
  • pasta;
  • mushrooms;
  • semolina;
  • chocolate products.

For colitis with diarrhea, the menu is slightly different. It should include the following foods and dishes that will calm the intestines and normalize the stool:

  • soups on low-fat broth from meat or fish;
  • chicken, beef and fish;
  • chicken eggs;
  • mashed cauliflower or potatoes;
  • rice and semolina in broth or water;
  • cottage cheese, kefir and fermented baked milk;
  • tea, jelly, fruit and berry juices and compotes;
  • butter;
  • baked apples, pear or applesauce;
  • croutons or stale bread.

When colitis with diarrhea is strictly prohibited:

  • pickles and any pickled foods;
  • milk and sour cream;
  • sugar in an amount exceeding 2 teaspoons per day;
  • any sweets;
  • canned corn;
  • raw vegetables and fruits;
  • beans.

The diet for chronic intestinal colitis should be followed for a long time. As your bowels improve and you feel better, you can gradually enrich your diet with new foods. But you should add them carefully so as not to provoke an attack. At the same time, the general principles of nutrition should remain the same. So, you need to eat often and in small portions. Food should be steamed, boiled or baked. Frying should be discarded.

Colitis treatment requires an integrated approach.

And a special diet in this case is one of the most important components.
