What should you know about Hashimoto’s?

The quite exotic name of Hashimoto is an autoimmune disease, which is the result of disorders in the functioning of the immune system. In this type of disease, the immune system attacks the body, which is why it is often referred to as autoimmune diseases. In the case of Hashimoto’s, the thyroid gland is attacked, resulting in chronic inflammation. The consequence of developing, initially asymptomatic, Hashimoto’s is hypothyroidism.

It is worth noting that this autoimmune disease affects women much more often, which may be associated with higher estrogen levels. In addition to hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s usually manifested by chronic fatigue, drowsiness and chronic depression. The disease affects a metabolic disorder, resulting in rapid weight gain often leading to obesity. This is one of the reasons why a properly composed diet is so important in the fight against Hashimoto’s.

Hashimoto’s and the reduction diet

Late diagnosis of Hashimoto’s disease most often manifests itself as overweight, and often obesity. Incidentally, many women only notice health problems when the weight shows higher and higher measurements too quickly. Therefore, the basic principle of creating a diet with Hashimoto’s is to reduce the number of calories consumed. However, when cutting the caloric content of the meals consumed, you cannot overdo it, so it is important to consult a doctor and a dietitian. Eating too few calories additionally impairs the functioning of the thyroid gland, paradoxically making the disease worse.

Hashimoto’s and Meal Plan

Regular consumption of meals is a rule that, regardless of the disease, affects the maintenance of a slim figure. It is recommended to write the daily menu into five meals that should be eaten at regular intervals. It is important that regular eating becomes a habit. Regularity in eating contributes to the maintenance of a constant metabolic rate, and as mentioned earlier, it is of great importance with Hashimoto’s. The last meal of the day should be eaten approx. 2-3 hours before going to bed.

Hashimoto’s and the role of carbohydrates

People struggling with Hashimoto’s must pay special attention to the foods they include in their diet. Caution should be exercised especially when reaching for carbohydrates. Hashimoto’s disease is often accompanied by disorders of insulin and glucose homeostasis, therefore patients should reach for products with a low glycemic index.

Simple sugars, i.e. all sweets and highly processed products, should be excluded from the diet. However, it is recommended to use complex carbohydrates, the advantage of which is the high content of fiber that accelerates the metabolism.

Hashimoto’s and minerals in the diet

Minerals such as iodine, selenium and iron are the basis of the diet of people suffering from Hashimoto’s.

Iodine is one of the most important micronutrients that is needed for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. It is mainly found in seafood, seaweed, cow’s milk and its products.

Another element, selenium, reduces inflammation in the thyroid gland. The richest sources of selenium are fish, shellfish, Brazil nuts, eggs, cocoa and mushrooms. It is enough to modify the diet, not supplements, the long-term use of which may be dangerous. At Medonet Market, at an attractive price, you will find the Selen SOLHERBS dietary supplement, which is available in packages of 60 capsules.

In the diet of people suffering from Hashimoto’s, iron must not be missing, as its deficiency adversely affects the metabolism of the thyroid gland. The sources of easily digestible iron are egg yolks, red meat and green leafy vegetables.

In Hashimoto’s disease, it is worth supporting supplements such as Hashima Forte for thyroid and immunity, which is natural and available on Medonet Market at a favorable price.

important

Not all diets are healthy and safe for our body. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before starting any diet, even if you do not have any health concerns. When choosing a diet, never follow the current fashion. Remember that some diets, incl. low in specific nutrients or strongly limiting calories, and mono-diets can be devastating for the body, carry a risk of eating disorders, and may also increase appetite, contributing to a quick return to the former weight.

Hashimoto’s and Eliminated Products

When composing a diet for people suffering from Hashimoto’s, you should eliminate some, especially harmful ingredients. Among them, attention is paid to:

  1. gluten – The companion disease with Hashimoto’s is gluten intolerance. In this case, gluten should be dispensed with unconditionally. In addition, a gluten-free diet soothes inflammatory processes in the body. Therefore, regardless of the level of gluten tolerance, it is worth limiting its consumption.
  2. Lactose – As with gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance is a disease common with Hashimoto’s. Milk and dairy products should be excluded from the diet and replaced with lactose-free or plant-based drinks, excluding soy.
  3. sugar – we are talking about products with a high glycemic index. They disrupt blood glucose levels, leading to rapid insulin bursts.
  4. soy and cruciferous vegetables – it is recommended to minimize the consumption of soybeans, broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. These products contain goitrogens that bind iodine in the body. As a consequence, the thyroid gland cannot use the iodine supplied to the body, which further impairs its functioning.
