There is probably no mother-to-be who has not had stomach problems during pregnancy. If the diarrhea does not go away, it may endanger the baby. The closer the due date is, the less reason to worry.

Diarrhea occurs when the frequency of bowel movements is more than 3 per day and the stool is liquid or semi-solid. We talk about acute diarrhea if it lasts a few days, and about chronic form – more than 21 days. It is not uncommon for the latter to occur for no apparent reason.

Causes of diarrhea

Diarrhea can be caused by various reasons – poor diet, food allergy, indigestion, stress, diseases, infections. Since drugs are not recommended, it is much better to use natural methods or try to avoid it prophylactically. However, despite the exceptional care of ourselves, sometimes something will hurt, especially since we usually have reduced immunity during pregnancy.

Diarrhea is also the very symptom of pregnancy, which is supposed to clear the bowel before the baby is born through the birth canal.

Water

Remember that water is 70% of your body. With its loss, electrolytes, vitamins, calcium or protein are not able to cover all the needs of you and your baby. Replenish water on a regular basis, preferably drink highly mineralized water to ensure its proper level in blood vessels, cells and between cells.

In addition to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, diarrhea can lead to acidosis, intoxication, and kidney problems.

If diarrhea lasts for several days or occurs with unusual symptoms that worry you, contact your doctor immediately who will determine the cause. You may be suffering from an infection, so expect a prescription for medications that are safe to take during pregnancy. If you do not feel up to it or consider a visit to be an exaggeration, consult a doctor at least by phone to dispel doubts. It will take you a few minutes and you won’t have to worry about your little one.

Diet during diarrhea

It is worth getting a cola, which, when the gas evaporates, will be a great remedy for this ailment. Let’s also drink warm tea and lukewarm boiled water. A good solution is drinking blueberry infusion and herbal teas, e.g. mint. Liquids consumed in small portions should be at least 2 liters a day.

Bananas and dried blueberries will stop diarrhea. The censored are sweets, carbonated drinks and fried food. Fresh bread is also not good for us. Let’s reach for boiled apples, boiled carrots, porridges, gruel, overcooked rice.

It is a myth that dark chocolate has a constipating effect, so it will help stop diarrhea, because this effect works only in people with normal intestinal peristalsis.
