The diaphragm is divided into a muscular part (costal, lumbar and sternal) and a tendon. It is primarily a vascularized and innervated muscle that separates the abdomen from the chest. Through the diaphragm openings there are, among others esophagus, aorta and inferior vena cava. Very often people breathe incorrectly, engaging the neck muscles at the upper ribs (the so-called upper ribs), which has a definite negative effect on the diaphragm. This translates into many health problems later on. The diaphragm affects the processes of breathing and excretion.
Diaphragm and proper breathing
When a person breathes improperly, it causes problems in the blood, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic systems. Diaphragm it also affects the digestive processes. Thanks to the movements of the diaphragm, the functions of the internal organs are improved. The pressure difference created during inhalation and exhalation (with proper operation of the diaphragm) helps to prevent blood stagnation, swelling and varicose veins. Diaphragm it also plays an important role in the prevention of mental health due to the receptors which, thanks to their work, silence the nervous system.
Pelvic diaphragm
Diaphragm the pelvis consists of the levator ani and the coccyx muscle. Diaphragm the pelvis helps the vaginal and anal sphincters to function and supports the internal organs. It is one of the three layers of pelvic floor muscles. Apart from diaphragm of the pelvis, these include the urogenital diaphragm and the superficial muscles of the perineum.
Genitourinary diaphragm
It is a plate of muscles that, together with the pelvic diaphragm, closes the lower opening of the pelvis. Diaphragm the genitourinary serves as a reinforcing point through which the urogenital tract passes, and its thickness is about 1 cm.
Pelvic and genitourinary diaphragm dysfunction
Pelvic floor muscle dysfunctions are caused by smoking papers, being overweight, a poor diet or a lack of physical activity. With age, the female body is mainly exposed to the disturbance of the proportions between the fibers and the weakening of the muscles of the urogenital diaphragm. The factor that is most often indicated by doctors as having a negative impact on the muscles diaphragm genitourinary is natural childbirth. The muscles are stretched during it. They must then be properly exercised so that they return to a state close to their original condition. In addition, the most common complaints related to the above-mentioned dysfunctions are urinary incontinence, rectal disorders, back pain and male problems (e.g. prostate enlargement).
Diaphragm pain
Abnormal breathing that is not stimulating enough diaphragm, it becomes a direct cause of pain in the head, neck, shoulders and neck. Faulty operation of the diaphragm also contributes to the appearance of pain in the thoracic-lumbar region. Through improper breathing and insufficient work diaphragm, disturbances in ventilation are observed, which translates into unfavorable changes in blood biochemistry. It is worth practicing correct, deep, so-called “Diaphragmatic breathing”, which can provide up to 10 times more air when inhaled than shallow breathing. When exercising, remember that the belly rises to its maximum volume when you inhale, and slowly lower it when you exhale. It is best to do these exercises while lying on your back or sitting cross legged.
