This is probably the most important feature of adult diaper pants. The diaper pants you buy should be comfortable and soft. They should be very absorbent – this is very important, for example if the person is lying down and dependent on others.

Nowadays, adult diaper pants are equipped with breathable straps made of special materials. These types of straps are great for long hours. It should be made of soft materials and allow air to pass through. The material used should be air-permeable, so that it does not cause discomfort and skin irritation.

Selected adult diaper pants should be stretchy, especially around the waist. In other words, they should be stretchy enough to fit an adult. A stretchy belt is also needed to keep garments in place. Diaper pants – how to choose the size?

The most important things in choosing diaper pants are the size and degree of absorbency. The size should be optimal, as too large will lead to soaking and too small will lead to painful chafing. It is best to follow the size of the patient’s traditional underwear.

The absorbency of diaper pants, in turn, is related to the abundance of excreta as well as the possible frequency of change. The breakdown is as follows:

  1. droplets: less than 50ml,
  2. light: from 50 to 100 ml,
  3. medium: from 100 to 200 ml,
  4. heavy: from 200 to 300 ml,
  5. very heavy: more than 300ml.

Diaper pants – refund

Diaper pants are reimbursable products under the Ordinance of the Minister of Finance of May 29, 2017. The reimbursement varies depending on the patient’s diseases:

  1. 100 percent reimbursement for diaper pants in connection with cancer (including perineal and sacral diseases), its treatment, as well as complications,
  2. 70 percent in neurogenic or non-neurogenic urinary or fecal incontinence, profound mental retardation, dementia syndromes, congenital abnormalities or damage to the nervous system, congenital abnormalities or iatrogenic and post-traumatic urinary tract injury, iatrogenic or traumatic damage to the digestive system.

How many diapers are entitled to each month? The latest legal regulations provide for 90 items per one patient. Up to three consecutive months may be included in the doctor’s order. However, it should be remembered that for the entire period, you can pick up diaper pants only in the first month, in the next two months, and in the last one – only for one.

Diaper pants are reimbursed under the system of monthly limits, just like other medical hygiene items.

How to get diaper pants? You should go to one of the specialist doctors (primary care physician, family medicine, geriatrics, urology, neurology, internal medicine, general or oncological surgery, clinical oncology, cancer chemotherapy, gynecology, oncological gynecology, palliative care physician or hospice, health insurance fellow or a qualified nurse order for diaper pants you have to come to the NHF branch, register them and obtain a monthly supply card. Diaper pants – how to put them on?

Here’s how to put on adult diaper pants while standing up and put them on for a lying person:

  1. remember! diaper pants should be activated before putting them on,
  2. activate the diaper,
  3. before putting on the diaper, it should be activated, i.e. it should be prepared for use in 2 steps. Thanks to these activities, the absorbency of the product will be used to the maximum,
  4. unfold the diaper, grab it by the two ends and lightly pull it,
  5. fold the diaper in half lengthwise,
  6. note: do not twist the product.

Putting on adult diapers standing up – alone or with the help of a caregiver:

  1. Put the activated diaper pants between your legs, holding the product arranged in the form of a boat,
  2. notes for the caregiver: you can put diapers from the front or from the back – to relieve the back, choose the way that is more comfortable for you in a given situation,
  3. adjust the diaper pants on the back and front so that they fit snugly against the body,
  4. notes for the caregiver: Make sure that the moisture indicator is positioned on the extension of the spine line. The mentee can help in putting on diaper pants by holding them in the front on the lower abdomen,
  5. fasten the diaper pants with the elastic adhesive clasps, starting with the bottom fastener and attach it slightly diagonally upwards. After tightening the lower fasteners, attach the upper adhesive fasteners to fit the diaper pants around the waist,
  6. after fastening the diaper pants, make sure that the diaper fits well and adheres to the body, that the covers are not rolled up and that the diaper does not stick into the body at any point,
  7. Roll up used diaper pants and throw them into the rubbish bin. Do not throw used product down the toilet.

Putting adult diaper pants on a recumbent person:

  1. stand on the edge of the bed and bend one of the patient’s legs at the knee,
  2. note: if you are standing on the patient’s right side, bend his left leg, if you are standing on his left side – bend the right leg,
  3. turn the patient to the side and after carrying out the nursing activities, put the previously activated diaper pants on the back of the patient,
  4. note: remember to fold the wing of the diaper pants so that it can be removed from under the sick person after turning it over on his back. Make sure that the humidity indicator is in the extension of the spine line,
  5. lay the sick person on his back, straighten his legs and pull out the folded wing of the diaper pants,
  6. pull out the front part of the diaper pants and adjust it to the crotch,
  7. fasten the diaper pants with the elastic adhesive clasps, starting with the bottom fastener and attach it slightly diagonally upwards. After tightening the lower fasteners, attach the upper adhesive fasteners to fit the diaper pants around the waist,
  8. after fastening the diaper pants, make sure that the diaper fits well and adheres to the body, that the covers are not rolled up and that the diaper does not stick into the body at any point,
  9. Roll up used diaper pants and throw them into the rubbish bin. Do not throw used product down the toilet.
