Diabetes mellitus is a disease of civilization that can be easily detected on the basis of laboratory tests. Single tests do not always give a clear diagnosis, so the solution is a diabetic profile. Performing a full package of several tests gives you a chance to detect diabetes early and implement appropriate treatment.
- The diabetic profile is a set of diagnostic tests that allows to detect carbohydrate metabolism disorders. It allows you to detect pre-diabetes and diabetes
- There are a number of symptoms that are an indication for such a test. One of them is feeling sleepy and constantly tired

What is the Diabetes Profile?
The diabetic profile is a set of diagnostic tests that allows to detect carbohydrate metabolism disorders. The tests will detect diabetes, but are important in general health prevention. They may turn out to be particularly important in the case of pregnant women who are at risk of gestational diabetes.
When to do diabetes screening?
A lifestyle that includes sedentary work, improper diet and insufficient exercise increases the likelihood of various civilization diseases – including diabetes. The most common symptoms include:
- fatigue and drowsiness;
- increased appetite and weight loss;
- frequent urination;
- excessive sweating;
- feeling a strong thirst.
Read also what symptoms may be a prerequisite for testing:
- having a general profile;
- with a renal profile;
- with a hormonal profile for women.
In the case of type 1 diabetes, it is also worth checking the concentration of zonulin in the stool. Medonet Market offers in-house mail order testing with a lead time of seven business days.

Insulin level testing
W diabetes diagnosis it is important to measure the level of insulin in the blood. Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas and is important in regulating blood glucose levels. The test is performed on the basis of a blood sample taken from the patient on an empty stomach.
There is no single, predetermined standard for insulin levels, as the result is analyzed with regard to age, gender, and glucose levels. As a rule, the concentration of the hormone should not exceed 25 mIU / L (174 pmol / L).
People with diabetes problems should be under constant medical supervision. If you cannot make use of a stationary visit, make an online teleconsultation with a diabetologist. You can do it quickly and safely at haloDoctor.pl.
As part of preventive measures, Medonet Market offers the dietary supplement Gymnema Sylvestre 400 mg to stabilize the sugar level in the form of capsules.
Glucose load curve
Known as the glucose load curve (OGTT), this test measures changes in your body’s glucose levels and detects abnormalities in your sugar balance. On this basis, it is diagnosed type 2 diabetes. and gestational diabetes.
Glucose load test it consists in measuring the glucose level several times, which requires several injections at specific intervals. As standard, blood glucose is measured first on an empty stomach, and then the patient is given a glucose solution in the prescribed dose – 75 g. After an hour, blood is drawn again to check for changes. This is a two point glucose load curve. Tests are also carried out with additional measurements also after the second hour after administration of glucose.
Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c)
In the diagnosis of diabetes, the blood level of HbA1c, i.e. glycosylated hemoglobin, is also tested. This index is used to diagnose the disease, but is also used to control treatment. Measuring the level of glycosylated hemoglobin alone is not enough to determine whether a person has diabetes. It is necessary to analyze the results in the context of other studies as well.
Diabetic profile – preparation for research
The diabetic profile is a set of tests that analyze the blood serum taken from the patient’s ulnar vein. You should remember to follow a few indications on which the accuracy of the results depends.
For insulin testing, C-peptide concentration and glucose loading testing, please note the following:
- the test is performed on an empty stomach;
- 12 hours before the examination, you should not drink coffee, tea, juices or sweet drinks;
- two or three days before the examination, you should not drink alcohol;
- before the test (and in the case of the sugar curve also between samples), we do not reach for snacks, chewing gum, we do not smoke cigarettes.
- you can drink a glass of water before the test.
There are fewer restrictions in the case of glycated hemoglobin testing – in this case, you do not need to be attending the test

Diabetic profile and additional tests
In the more accurate diagnosis of diabetes, tests are also used to help determine the nature of the disease. There are, inter alia, determination of the concentration of anti-GAD antibodies, which allows for detection type 1 diabetes.
In addition to the above-mentioned tests, it is also worth performing additional tests, which are important in the case of diabetes detection. This includes a lipidogram to measure cholesterol levels, a test for microalbuminuria (kidney problems), and a homocysteine test. In this way, you can find out what abnormalities diabetes has caused in your body.
When is it worth using the advice of a diabetologist?
After completing the diabetic profile, it is worth consulting the results with a diabetologist, who will not only evaluate them, but also look at the results in a broader context – by asking additional questions, he will learn about the patient’s medical history, and find out if there is any insulin resistance in the family.
Make an e-appointment with a diabetologist and talk to your doctor without leaving your home
If we cannot meet the diabetologist in person because the schedule of the day does not allow it, it is worth choosing a phone call or a videoconference with a specialist. This is a good solution for elderly people who are exposed to viruses while waiting in line at the clinic.
