Can men taking diabetes medications lower the likelihood of conception?
My husband and I made a decision about having a child. Unfortunately, my husband has been taking drugs for diabetes (type II) and hypertension as well as drugs after a heart attack for 4 years. I am healthy, 35 years old, my husband is 42. Will the medications taken affect the quality of sperm and fertilization, or can these drugs negatively affect the child’s development? – Eve
Of course, the mere fact that a husband at the age of 42 takes so many drugs indicates a metabolic disorder of the body that can obviously affect the reproductive capacity. It is also true that each badly affects the parameters of the sperm. But it is definitely better to take the prescribed medication – which allows the body to function properly, than not to take it. I have many patients with similar burdens who have children.
