Dexeryl is a medical device with emollients whose composition has been specially developed. It not only fulfills its basic tasks, which are moisturizing and lubricating the skin and protecting it against water loss, but also supports the treatment of many skin diseases. How does Dexeryl work on the skin? We check what is in the composition of the cosmetic and how much it costs.

Dexeryl – action

Dexeryl is a protective cosmetic designed to protect dry skin. It can also be used in the case of atopic dermatitis. It has moisturizing and moisturizing properties, thanks to the action of active substances, which include:

  1. glycerol (glycerin) – an organic compound with a strongly hydrophilic nature, perfectly miscible with water, 
  2. white petroleum jelly – practically does not bind water, has above all greasing properties, leaves a layer on the epidermis that protects against water loss, as an occlusive dressing, 
  3. liquid paraffin – it also has greasing and protective properties. 

The appropriate proportion of glycerin in relation to white petroleum jelly and liquid paraffin maintains the water balance within the skin and helps to protect it from drying external factors.

Dexeryl – auxiliary substances

In addition to active substances, the composition of Dexeryl includes auxiliary substances:

  1. monostearynian glyceryl,  
  2. stearic acid,  
  3. polycyclic dimethylsiloxane,  
  4. silicone oil,  
  5. macrogol 600,  
  6. trolamina,  
  7. propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 216), 
  8.  Purified Water. 

Dexeryl products – types of preparations

The products that we can buy at the pharmacy are:

  1. Dexeryl cleansing cream – a cosmetic intended for daily care. Very gently cleanses the skin without destroying its protective layer. The product is available in two sizes: 200 and 500 ml. It should be applied to wet skin, gently lather and rinse thoroughly. It has a very mild formula to minimize the risk of allergies and irritation, and does not contain any fragrances or soap. It is biodegradable; 
  2. Dexeryl dry skin cream – this care cosmetic is available in 50 and 250 g (available in tubes) and 500 g (packaging with a pump). It is applied to dry, cleansed skin. It is a typical moisturizing and lubricating preparation supporting the treatment of various ailments related to excessively dry skin. A thin layer of cream should be applied to cleansed, dried skin 2 times a day, and up to 6 times a day if necessary. It soothes the existing skin irritations and prevents the formation of new ones.  

Dexeryl – the main indications for use

Dexeryl is a product intended primarily for the care of dry skin, including inflammations, which include the symptoms of atopic dermatitis and ichthyosis. Thus, the product helps to rebuild the hydro-lipid barrier.

Dexeryl – how should the preparation be used?

Dexeryl should be used according to the doctor’s instructions or indications included in the drug leaflet. This is a product intended for external use only. A small amount of the cream should be applied to the affected area and gently rubbed. Dexeryl is used most often 1-2 times a day, up to six times a day.

Dexeryl – contraindications to use

The main contraindication to the use of Dexeryl cream is hypersensitivity to any active or excipient substance of the drug. In addition, remember that the preparation should not get into the eyes as it may cause irritation. The drug must also not be used on open wounds.

Like any cosmetic product, Dexeryl can also cause skin irritation. The most common side effect is hives, as well as eczema-like skin reactions.

How should Dexeryl be stored?
