The design of the premises reserved for children is perhaps the most important task. It should be comfortable, beautiful, safe. It is not so easy to design a children’s room for a boy on your own, but it is quite possible. It is important to know what and how to do.
General principles for decorating rooms for boys
The design of the premises is usually done by mothers. Boys’ rooms are no exception. Men – big and small – are mostly “not up to it”, they have a lot of “other things”. But it is often difficult for mothers to create such an interior that the strong half will definitely like – either the color does not suit them, or the curtains are not like that. It’s still good when they specifically say what they don’t like – it’s easy to fix. Much worse if the verdict is “something is not right.” Whatever you want, then do it. And so that he definitely likes the design of a children’s room for a boy, there are a few simple rules that you should know.
Walls and colors
The best option is plain walls with one bright accent wall. For younger children, on this wall, you can stick a photo wallpaper with the image of your favorite cartoon character, older children either need to choose another image – from those that he approves – or simply highlight it with color. Against a bright background, posters will look great, without which teenagers, it seems, simply cannot do without.
Now the emphasis on one wall is very popular, but in the nursery it is also convenient because it allows you to quickly change the overall style of the room. Children quickly change their preferences: what they liked six months ago, today they may not like it anymore. With an accent wall, it’s easy to keep up with the changes: they removed the old image, pasted a new one, replaced a few accessories (if they didn’t match the color). The new design of the nursery for your boy is ready, everyone is happy and satisfied.
A little about the color scheme. Traditionally for boys’ rooms choose blue, blue, green tones. Can be added to the range of gray and beige. These are the colors that the background usually makes, and the accents are optional. There may be red and yellow, and any other, too, as long as it is combined with the background and does not give variegation – this is not for the strong half.
Despite the fact that the walls are usually not bright, calm tones, the interior should not be boring. It is enlivened with bright colored details. Only no flowers and other similar “female” things. The maximum that men can agree to is a stripe or a cage, and then in fragments, and not everywhere.
A few tips for choosing images. Boys are more aggressive by nature. They should be like that. When choosing important things like the main image in the room, listen to their opinion. Even if you do not like this picture, you should choose it.
Furniture
The set of furniture in the children’s room is not very different: you definitely need a bed, a wardrobe or a storage system for things and toys, a table, shelves on the walls – that’s all, perhaps. With age, some pieces of furniture are “reprofiled” and / or the appearance changes, a more age-appropriate design is selected.
For younger boys, it can be problematic to move from a familiar crib to a large and unfamiliar one. To solve the problem, buy a bed designed in the form of a typewriter, a ship, something that he will definitely like. Fortunately, today they are no longer crazy money – domestic manufacturers are trying, and the prices are quite reasonable. In extreme cases, you can order design details and attach them to the sides of an existing bed. A sea of positive emotions is guaranteed, against their background, the transition to another bed will be “with a bang”.

If you decide to buy such a bed, then the rest of the design of a child’s room for a boy will be dictated by its design: both dominant colors and accessories. So keep that in mind.
But such “themed” beds are good only at a younger age, in a few years you will have to buy something else. Among schoolchildren, bunk beds are popular. Even if you only need one bed. On the first floor then there is a play area or a workplace (depending on age), and on the second – the actual bed. Such a single option is also called a loft bed and even adults sleep with pleasure in them …
And since children rarely have large sizes, the compactness of such a solution is a clear plus. Moreover, if you wish, you can combine everything in one headset (as in the photo above). Here you have a working and a bedroom, and cabinets and shelves. You can also make drawers for out-of-season clothes in the steps, for example. Very convenient and rational.
In general, in the boys’ room, extra items are contraindicated. They are active, move a lot, the more free space, the better they feel.
Window decoration
There are not so many options – Roman, roller, Japanese curtains and blinds. Here, perhaps, everything that will not interfere with them. If you definitely need a tulle, then a simple one, with a geometric pattern or without it at all, and preferably, the length of the window sill and not lower. This is what the ideal window looks like from the point of view of growing men.
The color of the curtains is usually in tone with the main color of the entire interior, but it can also be one of the bright colors – it all depends on the overall style. In this part, the design of a children’s room for a boy is not the most exciting activity. There is simply no room for imagination.
Lighting
Normal illumination is a mandatory requirement for the development of the child and the preservation of his health. And the lighting system of the children’s room must be developed with this fact in mind. In addition to the central chandelier (or several ceiling lights), at a minimum, there should be a table lamp and a lamp near the bed. Smaller children may need a nightlight – overcoming their nightly fears in the dark can be difficult.
A table lamp is a must for students. It should be comfortable – with the ability to adjust the height and angle of inclination. These are lamps on a flexible long rod or consisting of several movably connected segments that allow the light source to move over a wide range.
There is another way out – to make ceiling lighting throughout the area, but to develop a scheme so that you can turn on / off certain lighting zones.
Interior reflecting hobbies
The easiest way to make the design of a children’s room for a boy unique is to reflect the child’s hobbies. It’s not as difficult as it seems. Each of the hobbies has characteristic colors and accessories, so they will need to be used.
Does your child love football? The bed can be decorated in the form of a gate, on the wall – the corresponding image, several baskets for balls, shelves for trophies and a photo. The interior is ready.
Approximately the same with basketball: a basket, floor markings that look like a playground (there must be a three-meter line for sure). Nets on windows and other breakable objects do not forget))
If just a child loves active games, make a Swedish wall with different shells – ropes, hand walkers, etc.
Teen boy’s room
In principle, all the recommendations described above are preserved. The peculiarity lies in the fact that you actively need to involve your grown-up child in the development of the design of his room. But what is important – you need to listen to his opinion. If you are not sure that you can accept his ideas, it is better to do everything yourself in neutral colors. He will add everything missing himself – posters, small things.
If you can decide everything with flowers yourself, then you definitely need to ask the owner of the room about the choice of furniture and its placement. If you don’t like the ideas either, try to convince, but without emotion, with arguments. It will not work – do as the boy suggested. A male character is already being formed in them, it must be reckoned with.
If it does turn out the way you predicted, refrain from “I told you so.” Just somehow casually suggest redoing the part that somehow does not suit you. And, again, do as your young man wants. They only learn from their mistakes…
Room for two boys
The most rational option in this case is a bunk bed. The only difficulty is that you will have to somehow decide who will sleep upstairs and who will sleep downstairs. Usually this is a problem. If the age difference is large, the lower tier is usually for the younger ones. And so that they would not be offended, you need to come up with some kind of option for the lower bed. As an option – attach a plastic slide, make curtains to get something like a play tent … in general, bonuses are needed. With a small difference in age and one room for two, a schedule is drawn up, which is strictly observed. Otherwise, problems cannot be avoided.
There are other design options for a room for 2 boys – put, for example, two beds with a sleeping place at the top and with a worker at the bottom (they are called a loft bed). This is in case of fierce competition between children. If they differ significantly in tastes and views, you can arrange them in different ways. If this can lead to conflicts, it is better to do the same.
If the area allows, you can put two beds or sofas. Only in order to avoid monotony, it is advisable to make them of different heights or break one large horizontal plane with a partition or a higher chest of drawers, for example.
