Description of the variety of raspberries Meteor

Raspberry “Meteor” is a very early domestic variety, obtained as a result of crossing the varieties “Novost Kuzmina” and “Kostinoborodskaya”. The most favorable regions for growing bushes are northern, north-western and central.

The bushes are medium-sized, do not grow above 2 m in height. The shoots are powerful, erect, the stems are thick. Shoot-forming ability is average, per 1 sq. m grows no more than 25 stems. The shoots are short, so they do not have to be tied to a support.

Raspberry “Meteor” is a universal variety

There are small thorns on the branches, but they practically do not prick.

Description of fruiting:

  • The berries appear in mid-June. They are bright red or ruby in color, round in shape. Fruit weight 3 g.
  • The taste of the berries is sweet and sour, the aroma is pleasant. 100 g of raspberries contain 15-30 mg of vitamin C, sugar content 6-9%, and acidity 1,5-1,7%.
  • The peduncle is not long, the fruits are easily separated.

Berries can be eaten fresh or frozen. They are suitable as filling for cakes, compotes, mousses and jellies. It is not worth cooking preserves and jams, the taste is specific.

Why is the Meteor raspberry variety good?

“Meteor” is one of the most resistant varieties to fungal diseases and raspberry mites, but bushes need to be protected from the shoot gall midge and spider mite. The variety perfectly tolerates prolonged drought and high air temperatures. The taste of berries does not suffer from such weather conditions, but they become much smaller in size.

Other advantages of the variety:

  • Good yield. From a bush, you can collect 1,5-3 kg of fruit. The amount of the harvested crop does not depend on climatic conditions and soil type.
  • Good storage and transportability of berries. The pulp is dense, therefore, during long-term transportation, the fruits do not flow.
  • High resistance to frost and temperature extremes. This variety can be grown even in the northern regions.
  • Good survival rate of seedlings. This variety is easy to propagate by cuttings.

This variety of raspberries is undemanding to care for. But to get a good harvest, the soil around the bush must be weeded and loosened regularly.

The disadvantages include the fact that there are new, more productive varieties. Meteora fruits are not sweet enough.

Each raspberry variety is unique. Before landing “Meteor”, weigh all its disadvantages and advantages. It is best to grow this variety for individual use rather than commercially.
