Description of the variety of Chinese plum
The Chinese plum is a rather rare plant in our gardens. It was imported from China and took root well in the middle lane.
The height of the trees does not exceed 2 m, but the spreading crown has a spherical shape and takes up a lot of space. The low growth of the plum makes it extremely easy to harvest.
Chinese plum varieties have good yields.
Features:
- smooth bark;
- oblong leaves;
- beautiful white and pink flowers;
- large fruits of the correct rounded shape;
- yellow or red peel;
- juicy, soft and aromatic pulp.
Early flowering often creates problems with pollination, therefore, in order for the tree to always bear fruit abundantly, it is advisable to plant cherry plum nearby. The seedling begins to bear fruit already in the third year after planting.
Popular varieties:
- “Sissy”. Self-fertile variety. Bears abundantly and tolerates frost well. Among the disadvantages are the late onset of fruiting and the rapid shedding of ripe fruits.
- “Beauty of the Oryol Region”. Mid-season variety. The weight of yellow fruits is 25-30 g. The crop is harvested in late summer – early autumn. Among the disadvantages is low winter hardiness.
- “Golden ball”. Ripens in August. Differs in high productivity. Large fruits (40-50 g) have a characteristic pineapple aroma and taste.
- “Red ball”. Early ripe plum. The crop can be harvested in the last weeks of July. Round red fruits can weigh 35-40 g. Begins to bear fruit for 2-3 years. Differs in good transportability and frost resistance.
These varieties deserve special attention, as they are distinguished by their yield and positive taste.
Planting and caring for Chinese plums
The best place for this type of plum is an open, sunny area on a hill with fertile soil. In lowlands and wetlands, the tree will develop poorly, which will negatively affect the harvest.
The variety has good frost resistance and therefore prefers autumn planting. During the winter, the root system takes root well in a new place, therefore, with the onset of spring heat, the tree is actively growing.
A young tree responds well to feeding with organic and mineral fertilizers
During the hot summer months, the plum should be watered periodically so that it does not suffer from a lack of moisture.
The rest of the plum care is not difficult. The main thing is that the gardener reaps the harvest on time.
