Growing onions “Hercules”
This variety should be planted with sevkov in early spring or before winter. For spring planting, choose large bulbs, 1,5-2 cm in diameter. Plant them in late April – early May, when the air temperature will be at least 10 ˚С.
For winter planting, choose small bulbs. Deepen them into the ground by 3-5 cm. Leave a distance of 3-5 cm between the sets, 25-30 cm between the rows. If you do not keep the distance, then the onions will grow small.
To harvest high yields of onions, grow your own sets. In the second year after planting the small bulbs, you will harvest the large Hercules heads.
Features of growing a plant:
- fertilize the soil with organic matter for the spring planting of onions in the fall, so that the fertilizers have time to rot;
- “Hercules” will not grow on clay soil, loamy or sandy loam soil is suitable;
- 2 weeks before planting, fertilize the beds with mineral fertilizers;
- loosen the aisles regularly, then there will be no bitterness in the bulbs.
Harvest onions no earlier than the end of August. If the feathers are still wet, postpone this procedure until early September.
Despite all the advantages of “Hercules”, there is one significant drawback. Hybrid varieties cannot be bred on their own. The collected seeds will not sprout, so you don’t have to waste time.
If you know the features of this variety and follow the rules for caring for it, you can get a good harvest.
