Description of the centurion onion variety
The Centurion onion variety is popular both in industrial farms and among private gardeners. It is appreciated for its simplicity in growing, yield and long keeping quality. It was bred in Holland and in its qualities is not inferior to the recognized onion favorites: the Orion and Sturon varieties.
Description of the port “Centurion”
The Dutch hybrid tastes moderately hot, good in salads. Possesses, like its relatives, medicinal and disinfectant properties. It is suitable for canning, can be stored for a long time and not lose its qualities. The “clothing” of the bulb is yellow-brown, the pulp is white, juicy.
The merits of “Centurion” are many:
- Moderately pungent taste that adds piquancy to the dishes.
- Not particularly large, slightly elongated bulbs. It is convenient to cut them using no residue.
- Narrow neck. This speeds up its drying and prevents bacteria from penetrating into the bulb.
- Almost complete absence of arrows, which increases the yield of the variety. On average, they collect: 3-4 kg of onions from 1 m² for private households; more than 350 c / ha on an industrial scale.
- Disease resistance, easy care.
- Can be stored for a long time in ventilated cool rooms.
This variety also has a drawback: it should not be propagated from seeds that the grown generation of “Centurion” gives. Since this is a hybrid, it will not work to grow varietal onions from these seeds.

Growing a crop from onion sets makes it possible to increase the yield. Sevok is planted in late September – early October. The sevok of the “Centurion” variety is slightly buried in the ground. Before planting, a small amount of potassium-phosphorus fertilizers is applied. If the planting material is selected correctly – dry, elastic bulbs, then with the onset of the first heat, the onion will begin to grow rapidly.
During the flowering period, onions are sprayed with insecticides to protect them from the main enemies – onion flies and onion moths.
Centurion onion is a fruitful and non-capricious variety that is easy to grow both for experienced gardeners and beginners.
